I’m reviewing The Chill Pill® Plus Sleep Aid Device with Heat & Pulsing, Yellow.
I don’t usually have much trouble falling asleep, but sometimes wake up early and it can be a challenge getting back to sleep, so I thought I’d try out the Chill Pill Plus.
It’s an egg shaped unit that fits in the palm of my hand. It’s mostly covered in a silicone sleeve that includes a wrist strap. The silicone opening reveals a stainless steel oval that needs to come in contact with your hand to be effective.
At first I expected it to vibrate, but after reading the user guide more carefully and checking out the company website, I realized this gives off electric pulses and does not provide any vibration. I can’t say that I felt any results from the pulses although some say it results in tingling. The user manual says to find your grip by tightening your grip and holding the device against pressure points until comfortable. I didn’t feel any pulses regardless of the position or tightness I held it, but I was able to hold it comfortably.
This Plus version also heats up which can help if you have cold hands. We’re getting into warmer spring weather, and I have more issues with being too hot than being cold this time of year, so I didn’t use it with the heat function. I did test it; however, and it does provide a nice warmth without getting too hot. There are 4 settings. You can use this unit with low pulses, no heat; low pulses with heat; high pulses, no heat; or high pulses with heat.
It has an auto turn off after 20 minutes that effectively turns off the machine as designed. I checked that out before using it. You can also turn off the unit before 20 minutes by holding down the power button.
I used this unit while falling asleep with the strap around my wrist, and then used it again when I woke up before I was ready to get up for the day.
I can’t say that I noticed any difference in my sleep patterns. It didn’t help me fall asleep any faster or change my ability to fall back asleep. The user guide does point out that it may take a week or more to see the full effects. While this may be effective for some, I’m not sure it’s for me.
It comes with a USB A to USB C charging cord, but you need your own USB A charging block to plug it into. I think most of us already have one or more to charge our electronics. The cord is 28″ long.
There are similar products available at less than half the cost of this one but it doesn’t appear that they include the heat function.
As a side note, this The Chill Pill® Plus Sleep Aid Device is made in China.
It does not work at all, will be sending it back
Lately, I have been trying a lot of hacks that promise to improve sleep quality. This one is my latest try.
First things first, as of now I have no clue whatsoever if it delivers as promised, and I’ll explain why:
The idea behind this little device (and several similar ones on the market currently) is that by delivering small electric pulses it stimulates some sort of meridian, or acupressure/acupuncture point, which, when delivered over 20 minutes (which is when the device will auto-shut off) will help you relax.
Now, let me attest to the fact that from a functionality standpoint, the device works. It does deliver said pulses. However, the instructions that come with it are horrible, but there is a QR code that you can scan for a short video that will at least inform you enough on how to operate the device – at least for the basics, I still have no clue how many different modes it has, or when to use each one.
After some tries, I know how to get the device to deliver the electric pulses. I can feel them. But I have no clue where I should be applying them. They are certainly not painful, and yeah, they can be relaxing (enough for sleep? not sure, but I understand that you need to use the device for about a month to really see results).
The device also has a heating function, but it turns it way too hot for my liking, as in “uncomfortably hot to hold in my hands” hot.
Honestly, I think this might have had some potential if someone had taken the time to write a manual that explains not just how to operate the device, but mostly how to really use it, as in where to apply, and what the logic behind the application is. As it is now, it’s an interesting toy, but there’s too much guesswork involved.
Lots of reviews state that this device does not work. It works with a basic electric current that pulses at regular intervals. In order for the current to flow, your hand or whatever skin you put it on has to have a certain amount of moisture. If your hands are too dry, it won’t work and you will not feel it. If you moisten your hand a little, you should be able to feel the pulse.
I have found this device to be extremely effective for myself. It helps distract me and get me out of a panic state when I’m feeling anxious. The rhythmic pulsing is comforting and it fits well in my hand. The silicone wrap is soft and comfortable to wear at night. I’ve fallen asleep with it on and it doesn’t bother me one bit. Overall, I’m really happy with this device. It’s easy to carry with me and holds a good enough charge that I don’t have to charge it daily. The only issue I have is that it does feel somewhat cheap. It says it’s made of stainless steel, but it really feels like majority plastic. For the price point, I just expected it to feel a little more substantial.
Bought this as a gift for my Dad. However the buttons r so tiny and close together that he can’t operate. I only purchased it on April 15…..less than 30 days ago, and was told it was not returnable. Ud think this company wud stand behind their products
Terrible. Tried two dif ones. The heat on he burned my hand, then no longer worked. The vibration buttons were finicky & often didn’t work. 20 mins was not enough time to fall asleep before it turned off and then fighting with the stupid thing to get it to work would totally wake me up! NOT worth $20 let alone almost $100, though I’d say it’s a nice prototype cuz when it did actually function correctly (VERY RARELY), it was useful. Do NOT WASTE you $!!!! Absolutely one of the WORST products I’ve ever tried!
It took a week to work but … it worked for my husband ! We have tried many things but nothing helped him fall asleep or fall back asleep a night. We are amazed!
Would not charge and turn on. Tried multiple cables and charging blocks. No heat or vibration. Returned for a refund.
