I sometimes have trouble falling asleep at night. From time to time, I’ll use a Yoga Nidra for Sleep recording, which is a natural way to fall asleep, and works, but it isn’t always as convenient and easy as taking a pill.
I’ve been trying different sleep supplements to find out which ones work for me and how I feel in the morning. I saw this product, ZEN SLEEP by ZEN HERBALISTS and thought I’d give it a try.
The first thing I noticed, besides that you need to take two capsules, not one, was that the main ingredient was Magnesium Glycinate. Not everyone gets enough of this in their diet. The RDA for this supplement is 310mg for females and 400mg for males, more if you are older.
It has many benefits:
Relieve anxiety
Promote bone health
Manage blood sugar for diabetics and lower the risk of Type 2 diabetes
Reduce PMS symptoms
Amplify exercise performance
May reduce pain
So, it offers many benefits and reducing anxiety is its main purpose in this product.
Also included are three B vitamins, B1, B6 and B12.
Several powerful, but safe herbs are included as well, including:
Organic Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Organic Peppermint, Organic Valerian Root, L-Theanine, Passion Flower, Holy Basil, GABA and Organic Skullcap.
I’m really impressed with what is included and noticed Melatonin is not included. Generally safe in small amounts, it can have some side effects and interactions with other drugs, like blood pressure drugs, which I use.
The capsules are pretty large, but easy to swallow for me and I didn’t notice any unpleasant odor. I’ll be taking these, as needed, over the next several weeks and report back if there are any issues.

There are some good ingredients in this product I take to help me relax and get a good night’s sleep. I can’t handle much melatonin, and these caps don’t contain any.
I do know and like the botanical ingredients, including organic chamomile, lemon balm, peppermint, valerian, passion flower, holy basil, skullcap and GABA. In addition, there’s L-Theanine and multi-B vitamins.
You get 60 caps for your $20, or 33-cents apiece.

If you, too, are a hard-core insomniac, you’ll be amazed to discover that this product delivers. It actually works better than some of the prescription-medication drugs for insomnia out there. It allows you to fall asleep peacefully in record time, and you wake quite naturally, with no hangover or groggy effect at all! The capsules themselves are clear (a nice touch) so that you can see the granules of the ingredients inside and make sure that they’re not nasty or spoiled before you pop them into your mouth. The ingredients include the usual “suspects” for this type of sleep supplement: chamomile, lemon balm, peppermint, valerian root, L-Theanine, passionflower, holy basil, GABA, and skullcap; there’s not much new here, in terms of my own experience with these drugs, which makes it even more surprising that it works. (Please note that the chamomile, peppermint, and skullcap are organic. The other ingredients are not.) This product has already made me sleep beautifully for three whole nights in a row! It may actually be my new holy grail for sleep products.

Zen Sleep has been close to miraculous for me. I now fall back asleep when I wake up once or twice at night. No more lying awake, tossing and turning, trying to relax and turn off my brain.
Directions call for two capsules but as with all meds I take, I find a lower dose – one – is sufficient for me. I always wake up for a bathroom break or two, but now I fall right back asleep. I am waking up earlier, at my desired time; before I’d sleep later because it took hours to get back to sleep, and my body was making up for that. Then I would wake up groggy and tired. No more! I have easily gained a couple of hours of productive time during the day, just because I sleep so much better and essentially through the night.
I needed something without melatonin, because no matter how low a dose I took, I suffered residual grogginess and fatigue. And it didn’t work as well as Zen Sleep. This is now part of my sleep regimen.

This is a great product and diffenetely helps me relax and sleep. Ive tried all kinds of sleep supplements and this is one of the better ones. I pair this with melatonin and valerian root. Give it about an hour and its snooze time.

[Edit below] I like to take this product at bedtime, when I’m fasting, to supplement my intake of magnesium.
I used to be a regular buyer of this product, but in 2020 Zen Sleep cost $17.99 (plus tax added). By 2022 the price of Zen Sleep had increased to $27.99 (plus tax added). I temporarily bought something else because Zen Sleep wasnt worth that huge of a price increase (over such a short time).
Edited on 4/7/22 – The price of Zen Sleep is now a more affordable $19.99 (plus tax added) so I will go back to purchasing zen sleep, with it’s bedtime herbs, to help me with sleep and help in upping my magnesium intake (which will naturally help me sleep as well).

I had such high hopes for this product. I really wanted it to work but it didn’t. I have really bad anxiety though sooo maybe it will work for others that don’t.

I’ve been taking the Zen Sleep tablets for two weeks (2 capsules) and my current reaction is a negative one. It doesn’t make me sleepy at all. The first few times I took them, they caused me to have weird dreams that actually woke me up. The good thing is that I didn’t have any negative effects after waking – no grogginess.
