Descrição do Produto:

This is my first pregnancy, so I am still learning. I recently decided to switch from Nature Made Prenatal with DHA to Zahler Prenatal +DHA a few weeks ago after a blood test revealed mild anemia during my second trimester. I learned about Zahler from the Pregnancy Podcast and heard that the type of iron used is more bioavailable and easier on the tummy. Also, I thought Nature Made had folic acid vs. folate, but that turned out to not be the case (oops)— another reason to switch to Zahler. I’ve only been taking them for a couple of weeks and while my energy is back, it’s hard to say if it’s from the switch or from the iron supplements that my midwife also recommended I take.
My biggest complaint about the switch is the fishy taste and smell of the pills, but I’ve learned to avoid it by putting juice in my mouth before the pill rather than pill first then water. Also, I kind of wish they were in a bottle rather than a pill pack to reduce waste, but maybe due to the 30 or 60 day amount it’s more eco-friendly to use the pill packs. It does keep them fresh, I suppose. Although, I put my vitamins in a day-of-the-week pill container to avoid overdosing and have to cut up the pill packs so that they’ll fit. Sure, I could pop the pills out, but I’d rather keep that fishy smell/taste separated from my other supplements. Oh, and some of the capsules were broken upon arrival, which is a bit of a bummer because of the cost. The pill packs kept the liquid from getting all over the other pills, so a plus for pill packs.
Otherwise, I haven’t experienced any weird side effects and I’m glad the formula that included sorbitol from previous amazon reviews has been removed. I appreciate the higher quality of vitamin and mineral sources as well as the vegetarian-friendly effort. All in all, I intend to continue using through my third trimester and so on, and will likely use again if we have a second child.
UPDATE: This is my third (or fourth— pregnancy brain ugh) box and there are at least five broken capsules. My previous boxes also had several broken capsules. I was hoping to continue taking these while breast feeding, etc, but the gross taste combined with the wasted capsules is making me rethink continuing to buy this brand unless the company changes the outside coating to something stronger. Very disappointing because I enjoy the quality ingredients.
SECOND UPDATE 5/4/2020
They went back to their previous formula a few months ago, so I went from three stars to five because: The pills no longer leak. They no longer taste super fishy. The company listened to their customers issues and fixed the problem. I’d feel good about recommending these to others.

Updated 8/31/2021: On my 2nd pregnancy and die-hard sticking with this tried-and-true prenatal. I had a smooth, fairly easy pregnancy with my first and credit a lot of the lack of morning sickness and both my and baby’s overall healthiness to this prenatal (no actual data to support this claim!). So far with #2, all has been well and I’m feeling great!

I love this prenatal vitamin! Before I started taking Zahler, I was taking a different, lower-cost prenatal vitamin + DHA vitamin while trying to conceive that was a huge tablet that was hard to swallow (I can’t imagine swallowing that one while pregnant and nauseous). Once I got pregnant, I switched over to Zahler due to its high-quality ingredients and natural folate. I researched and compared several brands of prenatal vitamins’ list of ingredients against the recommended prenatal ingredients & dosage per ingredient, and this was the top pick, especially when compared against price.
I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant and have had an extremely smooth 1st trimester, no morning sickness, and very little other negative symptoms. Not sure if this is due to Zahler prenatal vitamin, but I’m sure it’s only helped! I did try another prenatal that my OB suggested for a week and it left me constipated and mildly nauseous, so I immediately switched back. Since the pills are medium-sized and well-constructed softgel, they are extremely easy to swallow.
The only drawbacks are that it does have a very slight fishy taste when you first put it in your mouth, but take a sip of water and swallow it quickly (don’t worry, no fishy burps or anything afterward). Also, it’s 2 tablets a day, taken at different times, but I’ve read that it’s also easier on the body to absorb the vitamins when not taken in large doses.
All in all, I couldn’t be more satisfied with this prenatal vitamin and will continue to take throughout rest of pregnancy and postpartum period!

This prenatal vitamin seems so easy compared to a few others I’ve taken. It’s two pills a day (I’ve been taking one with breakfast, one with dinner) and they are smooth and easy to swallow. I haven’t had an upset stomach or nausea or misery like I have with some others (vitamin-nausea is THE WORST). And best of all, they feel like a complete and well-thought out pill for the LO growing in my belly! IRON (rare for a prenatal), DHA, folate, vitamin D, choline, magnesium, all the good things. I eat a balanced diet to begin and have been extra focused on baby-healthy foods (salmon, avocado, eggs, walnuts, berries, chia seeds, grassfed red meat, lots of green veggies, etc) but knowing that I have this prenatal as part of my regimen gives me comfort that indeed the baby is getting a complete suite of nutrients to fuel fetal and post-natal growth. Of note, the pills come in a pill packet vs a bottle which was surprising to me, but not a deal breaker. I will purchase again!
