Once again I ordered a supplement and it got squirreled away by my husband. That’s what happened when I received this bottle of 5-HTP with B6 by Vitamatic. However, after I realized where it had gone, I was able to try this supplement and my husband and I both feel it provides everything we hoped it would. These were easy to swallow. No aftertaste. I didn’t notice any gi issues after using these. Since everyone processes supplements different, I won’t review effectiveness.

I ordered 5-HTP because it is a form of the amino acid tryptophan, which is needed to make serotonin. Serotonin regulates mood. It may also be important in memory, especially in long COVID. Research has shown that a decrease in serotonin is “linked with characteristic long COVID symptoms such as memory loss and hippocampal dysfunction,” as reported in the journal JAMA.
I don’t know whether taking this supplement has contributed to my very steady mood lately, despite a very hectic work schedule. I hope it helps. I will continue to take this supplement.
The capsules are easy enough to swallow. I haven’t had any trouble with that.

The Vitamatic 5-HTP is a generous quantity package of the100mg per capsule dosage. The addition of 2.5mg of B-6 is claimed to help metabolize the 5-HTP to serotonin, although the impact of this is questionable. Anyone taking even the most low dose Multivitamin or B-Complex is already receiving more B-6. This is a minor criticism, because overall this product is a good quality, USA made product. The label does not mention 3rd party lab testing, but the listing does claim 3rd party testing, followed by an asterisk*, which leads…nowhere. This is more sketchy than reassuring, I don’t know what to make of it, but the product seems to be as labelled, and other than the trace of B-6, free of extra ingredients.
Summery –
This 5HTP + B6 definitely seems to help a little, I like that the capsules aren’t huge and they don’t have anything weird in them. They’re easy to swallow capsules that don’t have any odd taste of any sort. The packaging is high quality and assures me of its safety. I’ve gotten some supplements from Vitamatic and they’re legit in my opinion. If you don’t know what 5HTP is, it’s something you should look up if someone has told you about it. Of course, it’s best to talk to your doctor to see if it is right for you.

I’ve been taking 5-HTP for a long time to improve my mood and sleep quality. I ordered the Vitamatic version of this product, and found it equivalent to other brands I’ve tried, but at a slightly better price. The manufacturer states that B6 is added to the hydroxytryptophan in the hope that it will aid with absorption (apparently it plays a part in converting 5-HTP to serotonin within the body). I can’t say I’ve noticed a big difference between the formulation with B6, and the formulations without it, but I don’t mind having it in there. There are 240 capsules in my jar, equaling 120 servings at the recommended 2 caps per dose. Each cap contains 100mg of 5-HTP and 2.5mg of B6, and I take mine at bedtime with a full glass of water. It’s a supplement that can occasionally cause stomach upset, as well as weird vivid dreams, but if it affects you this way, try reducing the dosage to one capsule a night, instead of giving up on it. Vitamatic manufactures their supplements in the USA, uses third-party testing, and avoids the use of soy, yeast, wheat, egg, and artificial color, flavor or preservatives.

I use 5HTP to help regulate my mood and sleep. I have found that it works very well for me. I’ve tried a variety of different brands at this point and this one lives up to the others. I have also tried other supplements from this same brand and they have all been great.
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the combination vitamins like this one that have 5HTP and B6. But vitamin B6 is pretty neutral so I won’t hold that against them. But if it were up to me, I wouldn’t be taking extra B6 just because I don’t feel like I need it.
If you need some standard, cost effective 5HTP, this stuff is a good option. It works as expected and gives me similar results to other brands. 9/10 exactly as expected but I could do without the vitamin B6.
