We have 3 cats in our household and all of them refuse to it these treats. One of my cats tried a piece and immediately spat it out. I totally understood why when I tried to chop one piece with a knife to add it to their wet food…..they are so hard to cut, never mind about chewing these things! Whole package went strait to the garbage!

This order, my third arrived dried out and sold as pebbles, had this happen once before but decided to give the vendor another chance – cat cannot chew or comsume because they are rock hard –

Update 2-6-13: These are now made slightly smaller and softer, so easier for cats to eat – still crunchy and sweet so think small round crunchy cat cookies, lol. Since I first reviewed these, Pet Naturals has come out with a version that is soft and chewy, chicken liver flavor, all natural, contains no sugar and has a full 250mg dose in each chew, sold in 60 chew pouches at a very, very good price – a much better bargain than these and with more universal appeal for all cats. I still feel these Enisyl-F lysine treats are very good and I feed both kinds as they make a nice contrast in texture and flavors. For the person who asked about dosage, 250mg of lysine is probably about right for the average cat although you can supposedly feed up to 500mg per day to a full size cat, though I am a little tentative on that. I mostly feed around 300mg per day, although I will sometimes feed 500mg (or even a little more) to my large Maine Coon who is easily double the size of the average cat.
Original Review: I volunteer at a cat shelter so over time I’ve come to know what works and what doesn’t and what cats like and what they don’t. Approx. two-thirds to three-quarters of the cats in the shelter at any given time really like these and will gobble them up. The rest, not so much. I do have some concerns as these treats do contain sugar; still, we have less trouble getting the cats to eat this than any lysine treat we’ve tried so far – we refer to them as “cat cookies”. Altogether a great supplement for cats who need extra lysine in their diet – and definitely cat-recommended! By the by, we also mix a small amount of the Enisyl-F Lysine powder in the wet food we give all the cats and this also works well. We just find that the cats are less likely to eat the wet food if we use more than a small amount of the lysine powder – which is why we also use the lysine treats!

This review is for “Vetoquinol Enisyl-F Lysine Bites: L-Lysine Chews for Cats & Kittens – Chicken Liver-Flavor”. Let me start by saying that if your cats / kittens have the herpes virus (aka feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR)) then these bites can save your cats’ lives. I bought these for my sweetheart for the stray cats and kittens that she has hanging around her house that all got really, really sick and were all showing symptoms of FVR. This stuff is like a little miracle in each bite. After giving these bites to the one cat for a day, he didn’t have a runny nose anymore. Then after the second day, he could meow again and the crusty stuff on his nose was gone. Then after the third day, the crusty stuff on his eye was going away, and he could open his eye again. By the fifth day, the respiratory problem seemed to be going away, and he could breathe right again. Now I’m not a vet nor is my sweetheart, so we can’t say positively that these bites are a cure and didn’t just help with the symptoms. BUT, these bites also helped some other cats and some kittens that had the exact same symptoms going on, and they got “better” also and just as quickly. I can’t see where that is just a coincidence. We firmly believe that these bites helped save the lives of those cats / kittens. Now anytime the cats get a runny nose or something like that then my sweetheart gives them these bites for a few days and it seems to clear it right up. I had previously purchased the Vetoquinol oral gel for her for the cats and that seemed to work really well. These bites work SOOO much better and the cats seem to love the taste. (The oral gel must not taste as good because the cats didn’t want to eat it after a while even though they seemed to love the taste in the beginning.) We highly recommend these bites and will definitely be buying more of these bites instead of the gel. They really work!!!!! Hope this helps and have a great and blessed day! 🙂

Our 10-year-old, male cat absolutely loves these. I gave him one to sample and he tried climbing up my leg to get to the bag in my hand immediately afterwards, this is not something he does. It has only been a few days that he has been taking them now, so not sure of the health benefit effect, very much hoping they help with his upper congestion & sneezing, which doesn’t seem to be getting much better no matter what the vet prescribes.
