I recently ventured to try the Twin Peaks Low Carb, Keto Friendly Protein Puffs in the Nacho Cheese flavor and I have mixed feelings about it. Firstly, I appreciate the effort in making a keto-friendly snack with a promising 21g of protein per serving. It’s often a challenge to find tasty, protein-rich snacks that align with a low carb diet, so this product indeed fills a gap.Upon trying these puffs, the texture was pleasing with a crispy crunch that satisfies the munchies. However, the flavor profile took me by surprise. It somehow manages to remind me of taco seasoning or a meaty profile rather than the anticipated nacho cheese. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s not what I was expecting. I found myself unable to eat more than a handful per sitting due to the distinctive taste, which deviates from the typical cheesy goodness I was looking forward to.On the brighter side, the nutritional content is impressive. With only 120 calories per serving, 4.2g BCAAs, and 4.5g Glutamic Acid, it’s a snack that doesn’t derail dietary goals. Also, the fact that it’s peanut free, soy free, and potato free is a plus, catering to those with specific dietary restrictions. The process of microfiltration to separate protein from lactose and fat is commendable, making it a lighter, yet protein-packed snack option.I love the concept and the health-centric approach Twin Peaks has taken with this product. While the Nacho Cheese flavor didn’t quite hit the mark for me, it has piqued my interest to try other flavor varieties they offer. For those who don’t mind a meaty undertone to their cheesy puffs or are looking for a protein-packed, keto-friendly snack, this might just be the ticket. However, if you’re a purist for nacho cheese flavor, you might find the taste a tad offbeat. In conclusion, the Twin Peaks Low Carb, Keto Friendly Protein Puffs are a healthy and crunchy snack alternative for those following a keto or protein-rich diet. The innovative approach to a healthier snack is there, but the flavor may appeal to a niche audience. I’m looking forward to exploring other flavors to find the one that resonates with my taste buds!

Love the fact that it did not affect my blood sugar much, hated the taste!

I’m not gonna lie, I kind of thought this would be like the tub of Utz Cheese Balls. even if a smaller container, the same size of puffs. These are quite a bit smaller.
However, they taste great, so much so it’s hard to believe that the nutrition values are correct. And per serving? If you were to follow the recommended serving size, you’d end up with a bowl resembling a serving of cereal just before you add milk. In fact, I generally eat this as if it were dry cereal, with a spoon. I think it’s well worth it for a protein conscious snack.

I first tried these protein puffs at my girlfriend’s place. She tends to collect a bunch of protein, keto, and fiber snacks, testing various products to see what she likes best. I must say that I was surprised at the munch-ability of these puffs. She had the Jalapeno Cheddar (which is her favorite), and it was HOT, but I like spicy foods and the flavor/texture was far better than I anticipated for a protein snack.
Now my GF has me hooked on buying protein treats since I am looking to reduce carbs and increase my protein intake for weight loss. I have collected Quest products (cookies, bars, chips), RxBars, One Bars, Eat Me Guilt Free brownies, and so many more, but I think these puffs are going to be a mainstay in my pantry for the forseeable future.
Some positives of these snacks…
– They have a nice crunch for a whey-based snack. While they don’t have the airy/fluffy quality that corn-based cheese puffs have, it doesn’t deter from the fact that these have a good texture for a snack that mimics the popular junk food.
– The flavors are enjoyable. The Sour Cream & Onion reminds me of Funyuns, the Mesquite Barbecue is similar to most BBQ potato chip flavors, and the Garlic Parmesan, while stinky, is bursting with garlic-y cheesy goodness. I am a fan of intense flavors, and these puffs did not disappoint. The only flavor that I have yet to try is the Nacho Cheese, but I am sure it is tasty.
– The portion sizes are surprisingly large for the calorie count. 30g is a lot of puffs and it far more sating than a 45.5g bag of Lays potato chips at about half the calories.
– The protein-to-carb ratio is excellent for ADA or high protein diets, but the fat-to-protein ratio doesn’t seem like this would be ideal for a Keto diet. There are a lot of other snacks that have a decent protein count with an even higher fat content, such as Highkey Cheese Crunch, Epic Pork Rinds, Whisps, FBomb snacks, and Revol Snax Coconut Bites.
– The ingredients are reasonably healthy compared to other high-protein processed snacks. Most of the ingredients listed are whole food type of ingredients, except there is some typical processing ingredients like Dextrin and Maltodextrin (starchy thickening agents), and Silicon Dioxide (silica used for anticaking). The puffs contain sunflower oil which is not the healthiest choice but it constitutes such a small serving of fat that I am willing to overlook it. Chances are if you are worried about these ingredients you are probably eating whole foods anyway, but I digress. For a small snack that I only eat a serving of every so often, it works just fine for me.
Negatives…
– The main negative here is the price. Sure, protein snacks tend to be more costly than grain snacks, but you can get other protein snacks for a dollar or less an ounce, while these puffs are about $2.50 per 1.05 ounces. Rather than being double the cost of a grain snack, you are looking at more than quadrupling the price. Sure, we don’t exactly know the processing that goes into these puffs, and it is no doubt a smaller company, but I feel $20 would be more reasonable. At $2.00 a serving, it would at least be more on par with Quest Chip. Even though cookies/bars tend to be cheaper per ounce, most people eat an entire package, which is about 2oz, which equals out to about the same price. For that reason, I’d give this a 3 out of 5 for “Value for money”.
– If you don’t take your time chewing and slowly enjoying the puffs, they can get stuck in your molars with a sort of thick globby type of consistency. This sounds worse than it is, but since the puffs are made of whey, this is to be expected. Shovel too many in your mouth at once and it is bound to happen (don’t ask me how I know…)
– They can be addictive!
As far as crunchy protein snacks go, these are probably my favorite, with Quest Chips coming in at a close second.

I’d imagine a much better taste, just get some protein crackers, they taste better.

I have bottom this product in the parent tons of times, then the price was jacked up to a ridiculous amount. The price was finally lower and I thought I would treat myself. Well I just opened them and they are so stale with zero flavour I spit them out in with the horrible taste. These cannot be consumed. We bought them regularly in the past and they were great. I can see why the price dropped. The best before date says June 2025, I’m guess when prices got significantly raised you didn’t sell and then relabeled them.
In a world where every dollar counts this is horrible.
Can no longer trust to buy another product from you.
Lost a customer for good.

Very expensive for the amount you get but the protein puffs are a great snack.

Estan ricos, solo el sabor a ajo es super fuerte

The flavour’s just okay and that’s a good thing because I won’t eat too many of them. The jar lasts me a long time. Great for a Keto diet.

These are a staple for me. I will say only two of the flavors are a hit for me. Nacho cheese and BBQ both taste the strongest and the most pleasant. These two are the only flavors i have repurchased.
Sour cream and onion i found to be very bland, like eating nothing.
Margarita was also on the bland side but you could taste more flavor than the sour cream and onion. However, the flavor to me was not reminiscent of margarita or pizza in general. Just a vaguely unpleasant taste.
I have not tried the jalapeno flavor bc i dont like spicy, but the original nacho is good so i imagine this one is good too.
Overall the macros are great in my opinion and the crunchy texture is very chip-like. I love them!
