I got a sample size of the tatcha rice wash and loved it so much I bought a full size. When it was time to rebuy this was suggested to me as well. I trade off between this and the rice wash. This feels like it gives a deeper clean while the rice wash gives a more gentle clean. I love both products and would absolutely try other Tatcha skin care.

So, this was my first experience with a Tatcha product, though I have certainly heard wonderful things about the brand. The Matcha Cleanse comes in a sealed 5oz tube. Per the packaging, this is a good choice for those with oily leaning skin. I have combination skin, sometimes it’s more dry, sometimes it’s more oily, and it affects different areas on my face.
This cleanser is a scent free gel with a medium consistency. Although it will lather some, it is soap-free, which is what I prefer in a cleanser. I really love that it doesn’t contain added fragrance, but in the ingredients it does list dyes Yellow 5 and Blue 1.
It boasts ingredients like Japanese kyo-matcha, mugwort, and coix seeds, as well as rice ferment filtrate and willow bark, among other high quality ingredients.
This is meant to help thoroughly remove makeup, decongest pores and even tone, all while not stripping your skin of moisture.
I was hesitant to stray from my (very basic) cleanser, but I did use this several times at night after lightly removing makeup with micellar water. It feels really nice going on, and the light lather goes a long way. It rinses clean quite easily. I wasn’t left feeling like there was any residue after rinsing, nor did I feel it stripped my skin.
I actually did not experience any irritation after several uses of the Matcha Cleanse, which surprised me, as my skin can be quite sensitive at times. I don’t think it has noticeably effected my pores at all yet. It does leave my skin looking a bit brighter, though. No noticeable effect on balancing oil production yet, though my skin is still trying to adjust to the change in seasons here.
I think this is a nice, but not extraordinary, cleanser. The price is a big turnoff for me. I can’t see myself repurchasing this. There’s nothing wrong with it, however.

The TATCHA The Matcha Cleanser is gentle and effective. It doesn’t strip my skin. The scent is pleasant and not overpowering. My skin feels clean and refreshed, no tightness or dryness.

I wanted and expected to love this cleanser, but I just didn’t. It wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t the best fit for me. I do love that it’s fragrance-free and cruelty-free, which is an absolute must for me! It did a nice job removing dirt and makeup, and the price is pretty average for a good cleanser, but I think my skin is a little too dry for this product. I would probably do better with their “The Rice Wash,” so if your skin is normal, but leaning to the dry side over the oily side, probably best to avoid this cleanser.
