It’s refreshing to see unscented options in the tallow area. The majority I have used have had essential oils all over them. That can be nice, but sometimes I have a headache and just need something plain.
Tallow is something gentle and moisturizing for me. This is not just any tallow, this is listed as grass fed and finished. That’s a big deal to me. That means the cows ate grass their entire lives. A lot of companies will just say ‘grass fed’, but that does not mean it’s what they ate for life or that it could have been suppplemented with grass. The other ingredients are natural and thoughtful as well. However, I am not a huge fan of jojoba oil and I feel like it’s in every skin care product I find. That’s the only thing I don’t like about it.

I don’t care for hand lotion of any sort. I will only use it at night before I go to bed. It’s that time of year though, where I’ve started making Christmas candy so I’m constantly washing my hands. Dry cracking hands it’s terrible so normal hand lotion just isn’t working as well. I’ve been using this on the my hands for the past few nights before bed, it’s a little greasy but not too bad, I know that shea butter will always be like that. It is helping my dry hands, and that’s what’s most important to me. Also don’t need to use too much at a time.

I really like the tiny size of this tallow balm. So easy to take when traveling and I love how my skin feels after applying it. It does get absorbed into the skin very fast, it is not greasy at all either. I do have another tallow balm with tea tree but this with cinnamon and clove is by far my favorite.

If you’re already acquainted with tallow balms, you’ll find that this one fits right into what you would expect—effective, smooth, and straightforward. For those new to tallow lip balms, this one offers a great starting point. I was particularly impressed by the canister packaging, which is great for me; unlike traditional lip balm sticks, it doesn’t become a plaything for my cats, who enjoy swatting less sturdy items off my desk.
The Manuka Honey flavor is subtle, which is perfect since I’m not looking for my lip balm to double as a snack. It’s there to moisturize, not to flavor, and it accomplishes that without any unpleasant taste—a crucial point for anything applied so close to the mouth. Overall, this product is a dependable option without any glaring issues. It does what it promises, making it a passable choice especially if you’re dipping your toes into the world of tallow balms.

I’m reviewing Apothecary Prairie Tallow Balm, Organic Beeswax, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Jojoba Oil, and Vitamin E, For Moisturizing Lips, Face and Body, 1oz.
This tallow balm has a pleasant scent. It comes in a small tin, but a little goes a long way.
It leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized. It’s just a little oily, but about what I expect from a tallow balm.

As a side note, this Apothecary Prairie Tallow Balm is made in the USA.

The scent is a mix of lavender and tea tree—I would say the tea tree is the dominant scent. The consistency is fairly soft (I would probably call it a salve instead of a balm because it is so easy to spread). Even though the weather has cooled I haven’t had issues where the balm is too stiff to scoop up without being melted by the fingertips, which is nice. It works well for moisturizing dry skin. I love that the ingredients are natural and that it is made in WA, USA.

This is my first time trying a tallow balm. I got the unscented one since most everything we use, soaps, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotions and more, has a scent. Most with a different scent. Too many scents is just too much. The unscented balm has absolutely no scent. So far I have mainly used it on my lips. It has been great to moisturize my lips. As winter approaches I look forward to giving it a dry on my dry winter skin. I like this tallow balm is made with shea butter, jojoba oil and is rich in vitamins.
Apothecary Prairie Tallow comes in a small tin that is convenient to put in your cosmetic bag for travel, your purse or even your pocket. I was especially happy to support this small business located north of me in Washington.

If you’ve never tried tallow on your skin, this is an awesome way to introduce it to yourself and to your family. It’s a very healthy, unique way to add the perfect moisturizing routine into your life.
You’ll find this tallow to be very soothing, it goes on very smoothly and it’s not greasy. It has a very light scent, it’s not overpowering at all.
Do yourself a favor and purchase this for yourself & for the entire family. It helps to smooth away those dry cracked parts of your body like your heels, and your elbows & it smooths bumpy skin on your upper arms & legs. Keep it in mind for these winter months coming up when you’ll be using the heat in your home when your skin becomes its driest. I’ve been using tallow for many years & it’s better than any OTC lotion on the market prescribed by my dermatologist !! Try it, you’ll be glad you did.
