I purchased this to help with my porphyria; it was intended to replace Polycose, which I had used before to great benefit. SolCarb *does* help, not nearly as much as Polycose did. I was also unaware that maltodextrin (the sole ingredient) has a FAR higher glycemic index than sugar. Put simply, I had an epic sugar crash after taking a dose of a single teaspoon. Now that I know, I try to get some protein and exercise in with each dose to help counteract the effect…but a) eating anything solid at all or doing any kind of exercise can be almost impossible when I’m undergoing a poryphyria attack and b) I’m VERY lucky I wasn’t driving that first time. Polycose had several sugars in combination and the effect was far less pronounced; SolCarb markets itself as a “therapeutic equivalent” to Polycose, but between its reduced effectiveness and the high glycemic index it just doesn’t compare for my purposes. Three stars because it’s better than nothing, but honestly I had hoped for a bit more benefit out of this product.

I took off one star because of the short expiration date. We ordered the 4-pack in February, received it on time a few days later, but noticed the expiration date is for May this same year. Our previous order with a different company was a full year out from date of purchase.
We kept the product because we needed it right away. It’s a calorie additive for our child’s bottle.

This product was recommended to me by a registered dietitian. I use it as one of the ingredients for a custom
sports/energy drink specific for my workout needs. So far it has worked well. I do not know how well it will work for others.
