As with all supplements, one needs to do their own due diligence to determine if the components are right for their own nutritional goals. There are some studies out there about HMB and the effects that one can read up on.
As for the product itself, the pills aren’t small by any means, but they are very easy to swallow. They come in a nice sealed glass bottle with an easy to open metal lid. Personally, I do not get enough Vitamin D on a daily basis, so these having 125% DV of Vitamin D on top of HMB is a good bonus.
However, at the time of this review, this bottle of 60 capsules cost around $25. That is astronomically more costly than many other options on the market for HMB. The directions say to take three (3) capsules, 1-2 times daily. That means that the $25 only gets you a 10-20 day supply. That can get incredibly costly to maintain.
Even ignoring cost, the bottle only containing a small supply means that you’ll end up having to ship a ton of bottles and dealing with it every 10-20 days. This is more like a sample size than a true daily supplement. Not sure why this size exists.

I can’t lie. Solgar’s Muscle Maintenance didn’t seem to have an effect on me, but I don’t want to dissuade other people from trying it. Some studies say the ingredients are helpful, but some don’t. All you can do is try. Solgar is an excellent brand, too.
These capsules are about 15/16 of an inch long and about 5/16 of an inch in diameter. I don’t recall there being any open capsules making a mess in the bottle. Depending on how many capsules you take, the bottle can last between 10 and 20 days.
In retrospect, perhaps I didn’t stay on it long enough to see any effects. Perhaps you’ll have better luck!

I’ve read the ingredients list carefully now, several times over and I don’t see any ingredient that is a stimulant or contains caffeine. But within 30 minutes of taking the dose of 3 of these I get a headache that lasts for a few hours. I am not prone to headaches, and the way my head hurt reminds me of my college days when I took No-Doze when cramming for exams.
Beyond that, I would say that these supplements did not have a flavor or odor and did not cause any burping or other digestive side effects. I have not seen any change in strength or in recovery as a result of taking the supplements. Currently these are the only supplements I am taking, so the results I am reporting can only be from consuming these.
I’m not a fan of headaches, and won’t continue taking this supplement.

This supplement includes a great amount of effective ingredients and is of very high quality of manufacture. The price is not inexpensive though and that is the main reason I took 1 star off. Still, the quality and effectiveness of the product warrants a high rating and lead me to say that if you want a great boost to your muscle maintenance regime as you grow older (like me) I would recommend these highly.

I’ve been taking HMB for a while so far with great results, so I can only see how great a HMB supplement with vitamin D would be! While a bit pricey for only 20 days worth of doses, this works out to be a great combination of ingredients to combat muscle loss as we age. They come in dissolvable capsules that are easy to swallow and don’t have any taste. Just take 3 a day, and I personally prefer taking them before your daily workout as I feel the best results from that timing, but give it a shot!
