There are many supplements around that claim to enhance cognition and brain health, including a popular one made from jellyfish, so can this one made from Sea Squirts also be effective? Maybe I’ll find out before the bottle of 30 softgels runs out. The active compound, Plasmalogen, is new to me, but in researching it I found an article in the National Library of Medicine, that describes a positive benefit of Plasmalogens for Alzheimer’s Disease. REMORY is the exclusive purveyor of this Japanese diet supplement and it’s now available in the United States. The bottle label is almost totally in Japanese, but the box it came in has overlay labels with Supplement Facts and other information in English. The softgels’ smell is reminiscent of the seashore and they’re easy to swallow. The cost for a bottle of 30 might seem high, but is understandable for a product imported from Japan and available from an exclusive source.

Sea squirts contain an unusually high amount of plasmalogens, which are naturally found throughout our bodies, especially in the brain, heart, and immune cells. However, these levels decrease as we age. Plasmalogens were found to be deficient in the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, as well as several other neurodegenerative conditions.
In a 2022 study on Plasmalogens published in Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences, Professor Lei Fu, the senior author, later commented, “Our research suggests that plasmalogens may not just stop cognitive decline but may reverse cognitive impairments in the aging brain.” He also added, “For the first time, we show that plasmalogen supplements might be a potential intervention strategy for halting neurodegeneration and promoting neuroregeneration. The oral intake of plasmalogens could be a feasible therapeutic strategy to improve cognitive function in older people.”
I grew up eating the sea pineapple (Halocynthia roretzi), an edible ascidian (sea squirt), also known as meongge. I disliked it as a kid but grew to love it as an adult. However, I have not had access to the fresh sea delicacy for a long time. The challenge with reviewing these anti-aging supplements is that the effects can’t be noticed for at least 4-6 weeks. So, I wasn’t sure how to review this imported product bottle, mostly lacking English. After several days, I tried popping the capsule in my mouth for sublingual delivery, and I was shocked that the content immediately reminded me of the distinct flavor of the sea squirt. Sea squirt is an acquired taste, but my fond association had me really appreciating the genuine essence of the sea delicacy, although it lacks the refreshing sweet flavor and taste of the ocean. Ever since, I’ve been popping the capsule in my mouth daily, hoping for maximal delivery to my brain. However, I don’t recommend this to others, as it might induce gagging.
After reading the studies, I’m convinced and equally motivated, like Dr. Lei Fu, to supplement plasmalogens daily. I’ll purchase additional bottles of this supplement for longer-term results and also seek out meongge because I miss it badly, especially now that I know that it might help with my declining memory and hair. I have absolutely no doubt this product is what it claims.
Update: My amazing local Asian store owner managed to get me some raw sea squirts! I’m uploading a photo for you to see of the delicacy I enjoyed. A pill a day certainly seems more convenient, and much less expensive!

The product arrived in a nice package. Pills are small and easy to swallow. I started taking the Remory supplement about 2 weeks ago. I am in the late 50s and I am starting to feel that my cognitive functions are not running on all cylinders. Although not severe, I don’t have the clarity that I used to have in my 20s. I bought this supplement hoping that I would be able improve my cognitive functions. So after 2 weeks, I did notice that I am remembering things a little better. I would have many things to do and I feel like I am keeping up with most of them now (rather than forgetting some of them). My family also tells me that I am not as forgetful as before. (Although, sometimes I intentionally forget things for my own benefits!) With these types of supplements, you do need to believe that it works and the benefits are subjective. But I think I will stick with this supplement for a while and see how it goes.

Although I’ve been using this Remembrance product religiously for thirty days, I was hoping for more noticeable benefits. However, I’m not seeing any. Maybe I just need more time, but I can’t really afford to keep using it in the hopes of something changing.

Maybe a placebo effect… Or they actually do work, but I noticed I was quicker at having a response in my head ready for certain questions rather than spending a ton of time thinking before responding after taking this supplement for 2 weeks…. These capsules are easy to swallow and seem to have really great ingredients, so far, I’m happy with the results. I’m seeing.
