Works well w/o the intestinal distress soluble fiber laxatives can cause. Gentle and effective w/ once daily 1/4 tsp

    Pros:
    -price
    -no bloating or gas
    -tasteless
-no gelling when used with water or juice (though it does tend to make the liquid a little thicker)
-one of the few products that contain insoluble fiber rather than soluble (for those of you wondering the difference it is worth your time to look up the differences – I prefer insoluble as many of the side effects of soluble fiber are non-existent)
-consistent bowel movements that don’t cause loose stools
    -includes scoop for consistent dosing
    – ingredients list: powdered cellulose, maltodextrin, xanthan gum
-contains 12% of your daily fiber needs, has only 4 calorie, and <1g per serving (60 total servings per container)
-can be taken with your medications/vitamins as it doesn’t interfere with absorption
-sodium, phosphorus, potassium, and GLUTEN free

    Cons:
-none (as an insoluble fiber it obviously doesn’t dissolve in liquids and some may not like this, but not a con for those that know the difference between the fiber types)

Overall, very satisfied with this purchase as finding an insoluble fiber source is relatively hard (most major brands like Metamucil are soluble fibers). 5 out of 5 stars. Recommended buy.

It’s a bit weird to be reviewing dietary fiber, but it’s a product that stands above the rest.

For one reason or another, I was shopping specifically for insoluble fibers, and found out that most of the products on the market are either absolutely, disgustingly gross (for example, I found the the smell and the consistency of Garden of Life Organic DetoxiFiber to be just repulsive), or very gritty and difficult to put in a drink (Nutricology Dietary Fiber and Vital Nutrients Cellulose Fiber both fall into this bucket).

UniFiber, for a change, is completely tasteless, texture-free, and mixes in easily. You can mix it with anything – fruit juice, a protein shake – and it will go down very easily. It makes the liquid thicker, but at one-two tablespoons a cup, it doesn’t turn into a sludge.

So, yeah, it’s expensive, but worth it.

I swear, some reviewers on this site and others would vote pharmaceutical water that is sterile, causes them bowel problems and has a nasty taste. Anyway, I’m an empirical person. This stuff is a light powder, very light and fine. I filled a glass of water-about a measured cup- and added the powder from above the water level, just in case in stuck to the spoon or clumped. It did neither. The powder sunk to the bottom on its own accord, and about 2/3 of it dispersed by itself as a SUSPENSION. I stirred the rest about 5 times and there was no residue anywhere.

I drank the contents, and there was no discernible flavor, which was GREAT. I had the flavored junk that is usually peddled, and with sugar or artificial sweetener. UGH!! This was so easy, it was amazing. I added a small amount of water chaser to get any small amount left. It’s a non event, folks, like having any beverage.

I have constant, but slight constipation. This has gotten worse as I got older, and I am not going to strain anymore to get the bowel movement completed. I am looking for a permanent fix, and I think I have found it. I will add to the review when the results are in-or rather out.

Update: The third day, things are moving well. No strain, less gas, and more regularity. Success.

The mixed reviews made me hesitate to try this but I decided to give it a shot anyway. I frequently had 5-7 days stints of no movements, which I have been battling for many years. I have tried Metamucil and other supplements to help with my frequent bouts of slow digestion, as we will call it. 🙂 Metamucil and other supplements always helped in the first few days and then would lose their effectiveness after a week to 10 days.

I started eating a clean, healthy diet with lots of veggies and lean meats ~18 months ago, so I was perplexed when the problem persisted considering the amount of fiber I get from my diet. This recently led me to doing quite a bit of research on fiber and digestion. I discovered there are 2 types of fiber: soluble & insoluble. Apparently, soluble fiber is really more for those with looser stools rather than those with my affliction. Insoluble fiber is supposed to help hold more water in the bowel and thus aid in better digestive processes.

When I started looking for a source of insoluble fiber, I was surprised to find very little. I was happy when I found Unifiber here and decided to give it a try. I have been using it daily for the past 22 days and have only skipped movements on 4 of those days. I take 3 servings or 12 grams a day and I take them all once – forget taking it 2-3 different times throughout a day!

As far as taste, consistency and so forth… well, let’s just say I used to mix 3 servings of Metamucil in my daily 3 liter water bottle every morning and never really noticed it was in there. I tried that on the first day with this stuff and wow – the water turned a cloudy white and while the taste was mostly indiscernible, the grainy texture was atrocious. After sitting for a bit, some of the fiber would settle at the bottom of the bottle as well. I spent the whole day shaking the bottle and forcing myself to drink the grainy mixture and knew that was not going to cut it if the stuff actually worked.

The next day, I decided to mix it in with my oatmeal. What a huge difference! I could not taste it nor did I notice any of the grainy texture like before. The day after that, I mixed it with my protein shake (protein powder & cold water) and the graininess was present but quite palatable. Over the next few days, I mixed it with a variety of foods and found I preferred it with my protein shake or oatmeal. If I drank coffee, I would probably put it in there since it seems to dissolve well with higher temperatures.

Obviously, splitting it up into 2 or 3 servings a day would probably lessen the graininess issue. Either way, Unifiber is giving me the results I need so I will continue to take it daily. If anything changes, I will update my review accordingly.

JELLS UP right away. So the fact that it says non-jelly is not true. No taste so it’s good and it’s cheap. Overall okay. I can deal with how thin I it gets but just make sure your water is iced. Makes it easier to swallow.
