The throat spray has a pleasant herbily flavor and the spray pumps out far in the back of your mouth to reach the throat with each pump. I love that this is an all natural alternative and has no fake color dyes. It is easy to use, vegan and gluten free and made by a company I trust. I would recommend highly. Thank you!

I find the Mary Ruth’s throat spray to be a very convenient item that I carry in my purse now at all times. When I am out running errands in and out of stores with a lot of A/C, I will sometimes get a tickle in my throat which can cause a coughing fit. I used to carry a bee propolis spray but I already spray that every morning so was looking for something else that is organic with good ingredients from a trusted company that I already am familiar with and use many of their products. This sounded like it fit the bill and it certainly does. Every time I have used it, it has immediately calmed the tickle. I did not have to spray again beyond the initial two sprays. I find the taste to be very pleasant. I can definitely taste the vanilla and really do not taste the other ingredients. Maybe I would if I held it in my mouth longer but it does say to swallow immediately and I’m guessing the reason is because the taste would not be pleasant. Although it doesn’t say anywhere on the bottle that this is used to calm a tickle or dry throat, this has worked perfectly for me and I have recommended it to my family and friends.

I ordered this USDA Organic Throat Spray with Mullein Leaf by MaryRuth Organics because of another product by this maker that I liked a lot. This is also the very first supplement spray I’ve tried, and I have to say I really love this delivery method. It’s right up there with taking liquid drops, especially when the taste/flavor is okay like this product. My taste buds pick up more of the sweetness of the organic vegetable glycerin and thyme leaf and licorice root than vanilla though. So anyone expecting a strong taste of vanilla might be disappointed.
The “spray” is also more like a strong stream instead of a mist. Overall, I think this is a good product with quality ingredients that comes sealed inside a box. It contains a proprietary blend of mullein leaf, marshmallow root, thyme leaf, and licorice root. Mullein leaf in particular is traditionally thought to have cough-reducing and mucus-thinning properties. Some studies show it might be able to soothe sore throats. Like many herbal supplements its benefits probably accrue gradually and are not the same for everyone. So anyone expecting a quick symptom fix may likely be disappointed. I did find it to be soothing on my throat. Lastly, while the product is a bit expensive, it’s by a trusted maker and the 1-ounce bottle does contain about 100 servings (2 sprays per serving).

Excellent formula but unfortunately the spray bottle quit working after a week which is so frustratingly annoying so the whole thing is a waste of money.

I have been a fan and religous purchaser of a few Mary Ruth’s products for some years now. I like the brand a lot, so I had to give this throat spray a try. I ordered it at the perfect time too, as my allergies were just starting to kick up.
The product arrived quick in the branded Mary Ruth’s box. The generously sized, dark glass bottle inside had a tamper proof saftey seal over the cap and neck to both prevent spills during shipping and possible adulteration of the product.
This is a very quick and easy delivery system- just shake the bottle, aim at the throat and give 2 sprays. The formula comes out in a stream that hits the back of the throat without having to touch parts of the mouth first and not any type of mist. The semi-strong stream is a bit suprising at first, but nothing that will make you gag.
I don’t know what it is about Mary Ruth’s products that come in pump spray bottles, but 80% of the ones I have (D3 + K2 and B-12 are my ride or dies!) the pump sprayer fails, always well before the product is finished too. This sprayer was no different, failing right around the mid way point of the bottle. I’ve contacted the company about this in the past because it’s really annoying having find another sprayer that works/fits or having to transfer the contents to another bottle.
Now the taste of this in not what I would expect at all from a ‘vanilla’ flavored throat spray, but my familiarity with the brand somewhat prepared me for what this really tastes like. The liquorice is definitely noticable, but it’s exaggerated by the marshmellow root. Yes, modern marshmallows that come in a bag from rhe store taste delicious, with all the refined sugar packed in, but they are no longer made with their namesake anymore, marshmallow root, which tastes nothing like you would expect. It’s ever so slightly sweet with a very earthy and woody flavor. Somewhere in there, I can tell there is vanilla trying to come out to help, but even a bold flavor like vanilla is dwarfed by the two mega stars of this formula. It’s not terrible (and that’s a statement from me as I loathe liquorice!), but I’m thankful it goes right to ths throat and doesn’t really get a chance to hit or spend any time on the taste buds.
This product is definitely effective, I’ll give it that, but just know that while it does provide some relief up front, this has more of a cumulative benifit overall.
☆It will give some relief to a scratchy/itchy throat right away, maybe a 4 out of 10, but after a few more uses, that scratch/itch will subside until it’s unnoticeable.
☆The mullen and liquorice together make a great natural anesthetic, which will immediately numb a sore throat for a bit. But unlike regular throat sprays that just treat the symptom this will, with continued use, help the throat heal all together. It does take some time though- a few days at least.
☆I have found that this is an absolute wonder worker for that nagging, dry cough. Forget about sugary cough drops that just keep things moist because this spray literally is one of the best things for a dry cough I’ve ever used. This relief is immediate and lasts too!
So this is definitely an effective formula, once you get used to the taste (which you do- it’s not terrible). It’s convenient, portable and easy to use too. They really need to do something about the sprayers though.
Is it worth $20?
For what this can do and the fact that it’s clean and organic, I would say it is. I will buy it again for sure because unlike over the counter stuff that is loaded with sugar and doesn’t really do anything beside cover up a symptom, this actually helps AND treats the issue.

I used this for fairly mild throat irritation and it didn’t even really help improve that. I try to find natural/organic alternatives for more mild problems like this, but I was surprised by how little it really did. I was worried it would be a bit gross but it really just has a mild vanilla flavor and nothing too strong. It was very mildly soothing but no real relief beyond that and did less than tea with honey would have. I’m sure this works differently for different people so it may be worth a try, but I probably would not turn to this with a sore throat. I don’t really use the less natural throat sprays either so perhaps they’re all pretty ineffective but I’ll be sticking with tea and honey!
