Good source of resveratrol – much higher than grapes. Some folks might get an upset stomach from this (around 5% of folks I believe). I tend to have a pretty sensitive stomach but it hasn’t bothered me at all – I do take it with food though.

So first let me say what is in this supplement, amazon would be better served putting the nutrition facts up here (vitacost has it). To be certain this supplement has 200mg of resveratrol. Polyconum cuspidatum Root Extract is the actual plant part that contains resveratrol. An estimated 50% of that root extract is pure trans-resveratrol. In other words it takes 400mg of the root to make 200mg of the resveratrol and that is the recommended daily dosage. Source Naturals has the 400mg of the root extract yielding 200mg of trans-Resveratrol, 10mg of red wine extract and 26mg of calcium.
This dosage, 200mg, is recommended in this book Integrated Medicine for Neurologic Disorders, Kurn is an MD neurologist specializing in neurological disorders. His advice should have some weight with this supplement because there are quite a few brands of resveratrol that claim to have considerably more in it, as the reviewer Laser Point highlights, more than 200mg is unnecessary. Also the supplement is very safe at that dosage. That book from 2008 is still considered current by nutritional doctors such as Nan Fuchs who has this highlighted on her website this month, Jan, 2012. In the book Kurn highlights resveratrol’s function of activating Sirtuins which naturally regulate gene expression.
From Kurn, “Sirtuins are now thought to mediate the extension of life associated with caloric restriction.” There is also evidence that resveratrol suppresses the COX enzyme which is a cancer cause. There’s also evidence that resveratrol can help kill pancreatic cancer cells in combination with chemo-therapy. One of the best functions this supplement has is the ability to eradicate amyloid-beta, the plaque that causes Alzheimers.
Amazon is really really coming through big time for my family here, caring for a mother with Alzheimers and having lost siblings to cancer. Adding a supplement that works out to $7.71/mo on the subscribe and save price now is so manageable compared to other natural supplements that can go for 6x that easily.
I will update this when I have taken more but my first experience with the veg caps was a good one.

I recently ran into a friend who is very knowledgable about supplements and keeps up with the research about these products. She pointed out that the beneficial results for resveratrol discussed in the research had been achieved with significantly higher dosages than the supplement I had previously purchased. So I decided to try the product she recommended when I ran out of the other bottle. I took two of these tablets without thinking because I had been so used to taking 2 low dose tablets each morning.Within a couple of hours I noticed a raised energy level. Within a few days of beginning the new supplement I saw improvement in my complexion, skin tone, and hair. Others also noticed the difference. That’s when I looked again at the bottle and realized that I was actually taking 400 mg per day. The effects of this product have been far better than any cosmetic cream, shampoo, supplement etc. that I have ever tried. This really does seem to have genuine anti-aging properties.The low dosage product did not produce a noticable effect but these tablets have certainly made a difference. I highly recommend it.

The first bottle I bought seemed to make the most noticeable difference while subsequent bottles not as much. I have other health issues so that may be the cause. When I first started taking this brand 200 mg twice a day my skin became so clear, soft, and smooth it actually caused my husband to look at me (my face) one day (no makeup) and comment on how beautiful I was and how gorgeous my skin looked! Now, I bought this on the recommendation of another reviewer who stated it did not help with whatever her initial reason for buying it was, but she noticed the effect it had on her skin. That is why I bought it. I am 50 with little to no wrinkles. I most definitely think this product contributes to that. I would most definitely recommend this product. Make sure you buy the 200 mg and take twice a day.
