The taste leaves a lot to be desired, but that’s kind of the point. Seems the focus with this product is excellent nutrition and macros, amazing texture and crunch, but then leave the flavor up to you. For example, these go perfectly in my morning oatmeal, sweetened with a little honey and the added crunch and protein is amazing. A+ will buy again!

I have a high tolerance for odd health foods and can force myself to like almost anything if it has good stats. But even I would not recommend these.
Pros:
-Great protein-to-calorie ratio.
-They have a nice crunch to them.
-They don’t really have much taste, but they don’t taste bad – it’s more of a generic unflavored crunch.
Cons:
-They upset my stomach. Although admittedly my stomach is sensitive (mostly to sugar alcohols and things of that sort), it’s never been upset by protein puffs in the past.
-Despite reading the reviews that said the puffs were tiny, I was surprised by how small they are. Each pellet is smaller than a popcorn kernel. (See photo.) Given the size, it’s misleading to call them “puffs” – they have no puff and can’t realistically be eaten as a finger food.
-They come in a large bag that’s easy to get crushed.
-When you open the bag, you’re hit with a smell that reminds me of dry dog food.

Edamame Puffs, my protein delight,
Low in calories, but packing a bite.
Comparable to powders, they’re strong and lean,
Perfect for breakfast, snacks, or cuisine.
The price per gram? Simply can’t beat,
A budget-friendly, high-protein treat.
Toss them in yogurt, or salads too,
Pudding or plain, they’ll carry you through.
A new tool in my pantry, versatile and light,
These protein-packed puffs are just right.

I had purchased the whey protein puffs from Smart For Life a couple months ago and I absolutely loved them.
They had a good taste, the soft texture was nice, and they mixed well in both bars and milk.
I came back to purchase more of these, but the whey are unavailable right now. So I figured I’d try the Edamame puffs. They couldn’t be too different, right?
-The edamame, however, do not taste good at all. It’s not so bad that I would forgo the fantastic macros of these puffs, but it is not a pleasant taste. The smell is easier to get past, but it’s pretty noticeable.
-The texture reminds me of shredded wheat cereal- rough. It does not get any better with milk. However, even after sitting in milk, the crunchiness remains unlike the whey puffs.
It’s very disappointing going from mixing in puffs because of the macros and because you enjoy them, to mixing them in despite the taste/texture because the macros are so good.

I made rice crispy bars and garlic cheese crackers & they were wonderful!
Rice crispy bars:
1/2 bag of marshmallows
3 cups of puffs
1 tablespoon of vanilla protein powder
2 tablespoons of butter
Microwave butter & marshmallows until smooth & melted. Add puffs & powder. Put in greased container, press down lightly with greased spoon, hand, or bag.
Crackers:
1 cup puffs
1.5 cups low fat cheddar
Garlic salt & powder
Everything bagel seasoning
Put puffs on parchment paper, shake until they’re in a single layer, season & add cheese. Bake at 350 degrees until they have a dry appearance.
Very versatile ingredient & amazing macros. Great value.
They are bitter, but you can cover it up pretty easily with the right flavors.
Next I’m trying mozzarella with Italian seasonings to make salad croutons.
I’ll also try it in meatloaf, and as breading on chicken. Super excited to find this!

They are good and crunchy, you can’t beat the calorie to protein ratio, and they go well with savory food. However, they definitely taste like they are from a soybean, and they would not be suitable as a topping on something sweet, in my opinion. I think I will try protein puffs made from whey protein next time.

I hardly write reviews, but (like many) buy lots of stuff on Amazon. This product has to be one of the most nutritionally dense, versatile foods around. Now, it’s not the kind of thing you sit down with a big bowl of with a spoon and start scooping it in… it’s definitely not cereal. I see some people seem to do this. I would not recommend this. On it’s own it’s not the best.
Creativity and having adventure in cooking is the key to using this successfully. Granola, chocolate peanut butter balls, soy “rice” crispy treats, candies, smoothie topping, used as breading (smashed up) etc are excellent ways to incorporate this nutritious, protein packed product into food. They have an awesome crunch, low-carb and calories, and did I mention full of (complete) protein?! Also the protein content/cost proposition is pretty great. What’s not to love? Even my kids love them!
I simply can’t recommend these enough, with the caveat being don’t eat them on their own. If you are up for experimenting and finding where these work best, I’m sure you will come you love them just as much as we do.

Let me start by saying that if I could give these a 0 or negative rating I would but 1/5 stars is the lowest Amazon will allow.
These are possibly one of the most disgusting things I have put in my mouth. The taste is somewhere between cardboard and old socks. They smell equally disgusting, and have no seasoning of any kind, including salt. I know the nutritional information says they have sodium, but good luck tasting it. Additionally, they are smaller than tic tacs, not the size of edamame beans like the pictures try and portray. It looks like you are eating some kind of rodent food and honestly the rodent food may taste better than these.
I bought these as a healthy snack option, now I’m stuck with a 3 lb bag of filth. I guess I can feed them to the squirrels in our yard. I have no idea how these have a 4 star rating. Do not buy this product.
