This is my first time using Elecampane. The quality is great. Fresh and aromatic.
I’ve been struggling with my asthma recently (fire season in the high desert has taken its toll with all of this smoke). At night when I lay down to sleep, it is the worst. I prefer natural remedies, and all of the research I did pointed to this herb.
I made a tea just after it arrived. I used a full teaspoon, steeped for 10 minutes. I was not prepared for how bitter this herb is. I barely choked it down, and then became very nauseated. I managed to hold everything down, and was rewarded with my first restful nights sleep in weeks.
The next day I decided to cut the amount to 1/4 teaspoon, and only steeped for 5 minutes. This was more tolerable going down. No nausea.
So heads up, this is a bitter herb! Many medicinals aren’t fantastic tasting, but the value of the healing properties are worth it. This one takes the cake on both fronts.
I’ll be making a tincture soon.

This is really helpful for sinus and respiratory conditions. I got a bad flu congestion this year and it is making so its not nearly so bad as it is for everyone else around me. It seems to be helping me cough and sneeze less, with less of a sense the congestion will go into my lungs. I’m thinking I may also use it later on for chronic sinus congestion I have most of the year. Usually I can only breathe through one nostril at a time. It will be interesting to see if this helps against that. I’ll likely take it with nettles, dandelion root etc. As usual I plan to go on and off of it (one week on, and one week off) given that it is usually the best way to take herbs and keep their effectiveness.

This product has done wonders for my lungs. It’s been nice not having to rely on my puffers

This herb did not smell like the typical ones I’ve gotten other places. When I cooked it up, it didn’t have the same taste or smell. It didn’t break down while boiling like the typical herbs I have gotten before. The quality isn’t there.Had I known the origin, I would have not purchased.
This listing is misleading. Origin was based out of China. Not what the label says on the listing.

This is the second pound of Elecampane from Starwest Botanicals that I have purchased. I did try a pound from another popular herb company and was really disappointed. The Elecampane root from SWB makes tinctures with the most amazing color and flavor. I have even used it in Herbal Ales and Meads and love the distinct flavor profile. I won’t be using any other Elecampane unless I grow it myself.

Happy to get this so quickly! Elecampane root is my go to for a persistent non-productive cough, which my niece and dad have. Simmering up some tea.

I bought this and am happy with it. Its the next best thing to having your own plant, but this will hold me over.
Organicly grown, my first patch of tinctures is about ready to go. I find Matthew Wood’s books on this herb excellent,
so I’d begin there to learn more about the healing properties of this remarkable plant, which I suppose you’d hear a lot more about if big pharm could patent it and control it, and profit excessively from it. But listen, BP, you can learn and profit from it and help others also. Right Livelihood its called. Look it up. But don’t worry, everyone, they won’t, so, get it here, like silver, its a steal.

For God’s sake, don’t make a tea out of this by itself. Yuck! Very bitter. No more than half a teaspoon for a glass of tea but add dandelion and maybe licorice root and clove. Anything to make it taste better! I have bronchitis and this is very soothing. Just wish it tasted better!
