This came in a bubble envelope, rolled up around it for protection during shipping. The bottle is brown, which protects the contents from sunlight – many natural compounds degrade in sun / UV. The bottle has a typical plastic tamper-resistant ring, which has a perforated strip for easy removal. (Some supplements have a solid protective ring, and some can be quite difficult to get off.) Then there’s a foam seal over the mouth of the bottle itself – but one that’s only lightly adhered, so it comes off easily. Then inside that, there’s a desiccant packet – and on mine, it was right on top and easy to remove.
The capsules are organic pullulan, a natural polymer and water-soluble fiber – they are better at protecting contents from water and air than the normal gelatin capsules, and unlike most other capsules, they are capable of being, as these are certified to be, not only vegan, but also organic. They also dissolve quickly on digestion, so that the contents may be protected before they’re taken, but they are quickly available when they are taken. Side note, they are also more expensive than the alternatives. Quality has a cost.
The capsules have a fine powder. I didn’t take them apart, but they should disperse and digest quickly because if the fine grind.
The bottle label has apparently been revised. The listing has a serving size of one capsule, and my bottle has a serving size of two capsules. The quantity per capsule is unchanged, just the recommended serving. I will take one per day, as recommended in the listing.
Now, I have to take off a star because the listing mentions zinc. It says, “We added 50mg of maximum strength Zinc”. But the bottle does not mention zinc. I have pictures attached of all sides.
Concerning the contents:
Cinchona is a natural source of quinine, which is often used for muscular cramps – but it’s not FDA recommended for that purpose because of possible side effects, effects that are far less frequent when taken orally. But this recommendation is controversial among neurologists, some of whom continue to prescribe its use anyway. (I had references included, but Amazon doesn’t want any links other than to Amazon products.)
Despite the FDA recommendations, but following neurologist recommendations, I am taking this for leg cramps – which is how the seller markets it. I will update this review later based on the results I find. Based on the listed serving size, this will last 70 days, which is a decent trial period.
BTW, if you have or get malaria, this still reportedly one of the best treatments, and that use does comply with FDA recommendations.
Update: I didn’t see notable improvement in leg cramps after taking a capsule a day (the listed dosage) for two full months. I marked it down a star as a result. There are other uses, but they do have it clearly marketed for that purpose.
