    I had purchased a roll of Arches 140 lb. watercolor paper that had lost some of its sizing. (I did not know that could happen–and I have used Arches paper for years and year. I understand that exposure to humidity can cause the paper to lose its sizing–also long term storage.) After soaking the paper to stretch it, the paint would settle into unsightly blotches instead of a smooth graded wash.

    So to fix that, I used this glycerin by stirring 1/2 teaspoon into 1/4 cup of hot water (above 100 degrees). That is more than enough to treat one full sheet of Arches. After soaking the paper for ten minutes, I apply the glycerin mixture with a wide synthetic brush. After stretching that same paper, I apply a second coat and allow it to dry. There is a warning about not allowing the glycerin to come into contact with an open wound, so I wear gloves while working with the solution. The results are good, no more blotches of paint!

    I’ve only used the product yesterday. It’s seems very good so far. The color and consistency are great. I will know more once I’ve been using it a while. It is very thick as Vegetable glycerin should be. Nice and clear as it should be. Looking forward to find out if it will indeed work well as a Humectant.
