The product page has a picture showing “How to take: 1 capsule + 1 glass of water once a day”, but the recommended intake instructions on the bottle says “take one capsule daily with food.” Both of these statements are misleading because Lutein and Zeaxanthin are NOT water soluble. To get the most out of this supplement, it needs to be consumed with a fatty food or fatty milk (nonfat milk doesn’t work). This is because these compounds are fat soluble and when ingested with a little oil (avocado, olive, sunflower, etc). or a fatty food such as chocolate, they can be absorbed by the body. If this were really doctor formulated, as it says so prominently on the bottle, then it should have been suspended in a vegetable or flower oil, preferably in a softgel instead of a capsule.

The most important feature of our bodies is our vision. Most of us, as we get older, will notice that our vision is not as great as it used to be. We all took advantage of our vision and our eyes in our early years. We would get up in the morning and open our eyes and see that beautiful sun shine though our window perfectly. We could see our loved one’s face and feel joy. We could see pretty well without a 2nd thought. Many years have passed and our body parts are not so young and carefree anymore. Now we are wanting to take better care of our vision because it is failing us. I, for one, wish I had been more proactive. The latest studies prove to us that we can help our eyes stay healthy, with the right foods, enough sleep and certain nutrients, if taken long term, and can be a great assist to healthy eyes and a preventative. The latest studies also talk alot about Lutein and Zeaxanthin and how they cannot just help our eyes and vision stay healthy, but these nutrients are so good for our brains and skin too! I’ve been on PROVISION Lutein and Zeaxanthin for 1 month and I have noticed that my eyes are not so dry anymore. That’s a big plus. I can’t wait to see what else ProVision’s Lutein and Zeaxanthin can help me with. I think this supplement is really good value. You only need 1 capsule a day. This bottle holds 30 days worth. They are made in a GMP certified facility in the USA. The ingredients are non GMO, and plant based. I had no problems with swallowing or after taste and no digestive issues with these supplements. I highly recommend this supplement especially to those who want to preserve their eyesight.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are pigments found in the macula (the central retina) and they are included in supplements for macular degeneration. Bausch & Lomb’s Preservision AREDS2 formula contains 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin when taken in the recommended daily dose. The big questions are: how much do you need and is a supplement protective of retinal health? There is no Recommended Daily Allowance for either lutein or zeaxanthin. I do take a lutein and zeaxanthin supplement because my vision is important to me, the products are generally not overly expensive, and I don’t experience any side effects from this type of supplement. These are easily swallowed ¾ inch long capsules that contain a higher dose than most currently available supplements. But the flip side of that high dose is that the cost per tablet is higher than many other available lutein supplements.

These have a pretty high dose of Lutein! Not a bad supplement (particularly for those who don’t eat many lutein and zeaxanthin food sources like kale, spinach, broccoli, etc). For myself, various age-related eye problems run in my family, so I figure that it’s not a bad idea to fill in those gaps and do what I can to prevent, or at least slow, any future vision problems. This is a 30 day supply for ~$14… it’s an okay value, I suppose. Personally, though, I’ll probably keep these on hand for days when I don’t get my the dose of lutein and zeaxanthin via my diet… so these will probably last me a lot longer than 30 days.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are antioxidants. Both are found naturally in healthy vegetable sources. A vegetable rich diet will naturally provide these carotenoids. From what I’ve read there are very few negative side effects and lots of potential good for the eyes, specifically age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.
I also read that doses of 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin may protect skin from sun damage.
These capsules are 44mg of Lutein in a single capsule, which is over the recommended 20mg daily recommendation. One possible side effect of taking too much can be skin turning orange. So far I haven’t noticed any skin tone change or other side effects. They are easy on my stomach.
I swallow one capsule a day with a meal. I have read that Lutein and Zeaxanthin are fat soluble, which means they are best absorbed with a healthy fat, for example olive oil.

From what I’ve learned, the recommended daily dosage for lutein and zeaxanthin is 10mg and 2mg, respectively. These Provision Lutein & Zeaxanthin Capsules contain 44mg of lutein and 4mg of zeaxanthin in each capsule. I haven’t found any warnings in my research, about taking more than the daily recommended amounts. So I’m not terribly concerned about the considerably higher dosage. I am at high risk for macular degeneration and retinal detachment, so preventative maintenance is a priority for me. For that reason, I’m okay with taking more than the recommended daily amounts. Unfortunately, since these are in capsule form, it’s not really feasible to simply take half of the dosage in order to lessen your daily intake, if preferred.
As with many supplements and medications, the bottle was only about 1/8 full. I wish environmental impact would be taken into consideration when sizing plastic storage containers. :/
