The sunscreen is light and easily spreadable. According to the ingredients, it is safe for marine life and at SPF 45 it is great for an average day out. Unfortunately, because it is unscented, it does have this slight chemical smell (almost like rubber?) probably from the minerals which gets a little overwhelming near the face.

My August 2024 order of ‘Happy Ocean Mineral Sunscreen with Wetboost Technology (Pack of 2, each 2.5 oz.’ arrived as two plastic tubes with flip-top lids. There was an under the lid consumer protection seal present under each lid, but it wasn’t stuck on the tubes very well. (Maybe they need to use a stronger glue is all.) Both tubes have an Expiration Date of February 2027 as well as the ’12M’ symbol (which indicates the product is best used within twelve months of initial opening). The label includes symbols stating ‘USDA Certified Biobased Product’, ‘Tested & Proven Reef Safe’, and ‘Made in USA’ — all admirable qualities. In addition, the tubes are recyclable.
The active ingredient in this sunscreen is Zinc Oxide 19%. According to the US FDA and the Environmental Working Group (a 501c nonprofit organization), mineral sunscreens and those using zinc oxide are “generally recognized as safe and effective” (aka GRASE). In addition, EWG rates mineral sunscreens better than and more effective than chemical sunscreens.
This Happy Ocean mineral sunscreen applied easily to my skin, but it does leave a bit of a sticky or tacky feel (just like most other sunscreens I’ve ever used). After 60 minutes of outdoor activity I had no sunburn nor side effects from the sunscreen. Seems like a good product, especially with its environmental advantages.

Even though we are going into fall here, I decided to get a head start and order this Kids Mineral Sunscreen from Happy Ocean.
The first thing I did was check the formulation, and true to their word, there is nothing in here that could be harmful to children. In the listing it states that this sunscreen is lightweight and non-greasy. I did not find that to be the case, as when I squeezed out a bit it is very thick in consistency. Then I applied a small dab to an arm. It has now been 30 minutes and it never did fully absorb, I can still feel the lotion on my fingers and on my skin where it was applied.
This is to be expected for a good formulation that is water resistant, so I don’t mind at all that it is not “lightweight and non-greasy”. The cream is also odorless and according to the listing, only needs to be reapplied every 80 minutes. Since we were lucky enough to have a bit of Indian summer yesterday, I very carefully made a bull’s eye with this lotion on husband’s head and sent him out to do his lawn care.
An hour later husband came back in and sure enough, there was a pink circle on the top of his head, while the surrounding area was his normal color. At this point I was feeling a little guilty for not protecting hubbies bald head better, but I did have my answer… This sunscreen works!
Great hydrating ingredients and 19% zinc oxide means that the grandkids will be protected and I will definitely be repurchasing this product when the need arises.

I wear sunscreen on my face every day of the year and on any exposed skin when I’m spending longer amounts of time outside. I live in Texas, so I get a lot of sun.
I was excited to try this new sunscreen, because I love the fact that it is non-nano, so no nano particles to worry about entering my body or the environment. It’s reef safe, biodegradable and water resistant, plus it’s tinted.
After using it on my face and arms and in the pool a few times, I have to say it works great. I ended up burning the back of my shoulders where I couldn’t reach, but my arms never even got red.
I like that it is tinted and using it on my face under makeup works well, however it does turn a bit chalky white as it’s rubbed in, but as it absorbs, the whiteness seems to fade away and with powder foundation on top of it, I can’t even tell.
The benefits far outweigh the tiny bit of white mineral residue.
I also love that it’s made here in the US. I definitely be ordering this again.

I love the fact that this sunscreen is environmentally friendly, I just don’t like how ‘heavy’ it feels going on. It just goes on feeling thick, you have to do a lot of rubbing to get it spread around, and it leaves you looking pretty white.
For my taste, there are other choices out there that suit me better.

I picked this sunscreen up because my friends, who are from Hawaii and are very familiar with reef-safe sunscreen, recommended it based on the mineral ingredients. I often have issues with sunscreen running into my eyes throughout the day, especially when I’m swimming. This sunscreen gave me no issues whatsoever! It stayed in place all day, even with repeated applications. It’s a simple thing that makes all the difference for my comfort level. Plus, it makes me happy to know that it’s ocean safe and environmentally friendly.

This is for when you are swimming and want to protect the environment. A lot of reef safe sunscreens are super expensive, this is good value for the money. Because it is water resistant it does not soak in but sits a bit topically on the skin–not what you would want under your makeup but good for the beach. The scent is a bit odd–kind of slightly medicinal but not exactly unpleasant.
