– HOW TO USE THE PRODUCT: Do NOT simply put Kava Kava powder into glass and drink staight up. All Kava Kava powders require straining aka washing or kneading if using a a shaker. If kneading use a nut milk bag and only your fingertips to wash the powders kavalactones into bowl for consumption. Note, product contains fiberous materials that can get caught in the throat and cause irritation or problems with intestinal digestion.
– KNOWN EXTRACTION METHODS: Aluball Shaker, nut milk bag, home made delivery systems = 2 nylon stockings 1 inside the other, or used Tshirt.
– POSITIVE EFFECTS: will slightly temporarily numb the inside of your mouth, and possibly your lips. A positive calming effect, good for taking the anxious edge off of daily stress factors, and sometimes slight euphoria if drank quickly in larger quantities (2 tall glasses). If you try this stuff, you really gotta knead and strain it for over 2mins in room temperature water or hotter water (hot tap/faucet or stove top heated water). Provides a noticeable light body buzz similar to alcohol drunkeness if 1 tall glass is drank quickly without the head spinning drunkeness of alcohol.
– NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS: known to cause kidney damage if drank over an extended period of time and in large quantities.
– Widely used product. Many online tutorials recommend this product and so do I as a first time user.
– Long lasting product. 1 LB will surely last you 1month or more, or a family of 3 approx 1/2 month at 1 strained glass per person per day.
– RECOMMENDED RECIPES: 2/3 Milk + 1 Tbsp sugar + 1/3 kava infused water, 2 Tbsp Chocolate syrup + 2/3 Milk + 1/3 kava infused water, 2/3 Coconut milk + 1/3 kava infused water, 1/3 Coconut water + 1/3 milk + 1/3 kava infused water are recommended recipes to try so to mask the raw rooty taste.

Not as strong as the Waka but is a good “all day” kava which makes it a good kava to drink if you plan on drinking it socially, which is actually the best way to drink kava imo . The effects take longer to show up but build upon each serving to provide a nice relaxing yet smooth kava ride. The Waka can leave you feeling a bit more “kava drunk” physically if the same amounts were prepared and drank. Drinking twice as much Lawena as Waka has a nice kava experience quality that the Waka is too strong for, imo. If the tastes bothers you, preparing it with a citrus/tropical juice is the way to go. I usually go with a pineapple/orange blend from the store and mix in some guava or mango nectar I can by in 12oz cans. I warm the juice or water up before preparing and then put it and the kava in a blender to mix up for a few minutes and to let soak. I’ll then work that out in a cheesecloth/kava strainer in a pot and prepare a fresh batch of water to extract out more of the good stuff once the first batch is done. The larger the cheese cloth the better so you can work it easier to get all the “ink” out. So far, around 4oz of kava powder to around 60oz of fluid make a decent batch that I find works best for me and reminds me of drinking the actual freshly prepared stuff of Hawaii/Polynesia.

Now give this 5 stars instead of 4. I actually prefer it over the Waka. The effects are really smooth and uplifiting and just seem to be much more gentle than the Waka. I like both but this is the one I go to if I want to drink a bunch for an extended period of time which is my preferred way to drink. Also want to thank the reviewers who’ve mentioned using pantyhose to strain. Absolutely the best way to go it seems. The little knee high hose are perfect. Order bulk off amazon if you’re a manly dude like me who feels awkward buying it the store which i did twice. The second time I got smart and bought a bigger box 😉 Just keep working the kava until all the fine clay powdery feel is gone and it starts to become gritty.

I don’t really write amazon reviews and I think this is my first but I wanted to relay this mini-story. I have been ordering from Wakacon for a while and I had a package show as having been delivered at a time I was home and sitting near the door, but there was no kava to be found. I ordered another one and I was eventually able to get a refund for the first one, despite it sounding more like the UPS having delivered it to the wrong address than a seller error. I’m not sure who paid for the refund but I appreciate it and was able to quickly get my replacement, so in thanks I will review the kava itself.
I will start by saying that I think kava drinkers have a tendency to ‘taste with their wallets’ and assume that the more expensive ones are necessarily better. Having not liked Wakacon’s Kava Waka and seeing that the Lawena was even cheaper, I had low expectations. I expected more negative side effects than positive benefits from drinking this, like I experienced with their Waka.
It turned out I was wrong. The Kava Lawena is a solid mild kava with heady effects that won’t put you to sleep in the day, has a mild taste, and for me has few side effects. I don’t have source on hand, but if you poke around online you’ll also see that the Lawena has also tested clean in tests for tudei, medicinal kava not meant for regular use, while the Waka tested as having small amounts and some non-Wakacon brands tested as having larger, unsafe amounts. This makes the Lawena an excellent choice for health conscious people and you’ll be hard pressed to find anything else in this price range for the same quality.
That said, I see a lot of people using this or the Waka as their first Kava and I do not recommend that on the basis that you should make sure your first experience with Kava is as good as possible so you have a baseline to compare it to. Some people are drinking a brand that’s not right for them and then erroneously assuming that it’s the Kava that’s not right for them. Kalm with Kava on Amazon is one that has a consensus of being a high quality brand and includes prime shipping like Wakacons’, but there are others you could start with.
Secondly, a lot of the bad reviews on here are from newbies who don’t really know what they’re doing. If this could potentially end up being you, do look up a straining tutorial (I think Wakacon even emails out a tutorial with their order confirmation), make sure you have something to use a strainer, and start out by limiting yourself to no more than 3 cups of prepared drink with one cup spaced out every 15 minutes. This will maximize the positive effects while minimizing or eliminating the negative effects (dizziness, nausea, etc). It’s not Wakacon’s fault if you do something like chugging down 6-8 cups of it and find yourself having a bad time. Also learn about the drug interactions (don’t drink this with alchohol, don’t drink this while taking barbiturates, etc).
