I thought I’d give this product a try since they give such specific information about the ingredients. They probably are as good of quality as they say they are (not sure how I would know) but you can definitely taste it when you mix it with hot tea. I’ll be going back to my old brand.

I have always been curious about adding collagen to my daily routine, as I’ve heard many great things about it over the years. When I saw the collagen pop up in my feed, I was initially nervous about the product, but I decided to order it and try it out.
My hesitation, as one may guess, was in the fact it is marine-based. I have no aversion to seafood, nor any allergies, but I wasn’t too sure how well ground-up fish scales would taste in my morning coffees or shakes. I figured, as one might, that it would bring an unpleasant odour or taste. Thankfully, I was wrong.
To be clear, the Pure Wild-Caught Marine Collagen Powder by SKINNLY does impart a taste, but I wouldn’t really describe it as fishy. Rather, it had an earthiness and a sweetness to it, which I find to be quite agreeable in coffee and smoothies. SKINNLY definitely took the time to come up with a good way of masking any unpleasant tastes. Having said that, it is not at all neutral in flavour, so do be aware of this.
The powder dissolves well in everything I put it in, and doesn’t fall out of suspension after a couple hours of sitting. It comes with a scoop, which was nice to see included. The packaging never failed, even after accidentally falling from my countertop onto the hard floor below. However, I will say the bag should contain more product; at about 25 servings per container, I can’t say it is an amazing value. Multiples of 30 servings is about standard for most supplements, so seeing this product come in under a month’s supply is a touch disappointing. However, it is a high quality product, and I do still think it is worth taking.

Initially when I opened it it smelled like a baby’s fart. It’s not a strong pungent odor but does smell like a faint fart. The texture is like ground chalk. The taste is like ground fish scales or what you would think fish food tastes like. This is the taste of the actual collagen not when it’s mixed. When it is mixed there is a faint shift but I guess it depends on what you mix it into. As far as the benefits I guess time will tell.

I’m on the fence about this product because 1. I do not like fish or any seafood and 2. I’m not sure it is making much of a difference yet.
I was nervous about the possible taste of this product, but once dissolved in a flavored drink I didn’t notice much of a taste. I did notice a slight bit of texture though, which I was fond of. Overall, I’m not sure if it is making a big difference yet or not. It is probably too soon to tell.

This collagen powder has been pretty easy to add to the day-to-day routine.
It mixes pretty well and doesn’t leave any clumps or residue. Also it seems to be pretty high quality and doesn’t have any smell that’s unappeasing to add to daily use.
I have found a good boost in energy and really like adding it to my routine without any noticeable upset or irritation to the stomach.

This collagen is sourced from wild caught tuna and Japanese threadfin bream fish scales. One scoop gives you 9gm of collagen. Since it’s marine sourced it gives the consumer type I and III only.
From an NIH paper on the benefits of marine collagen: “In addition to accelerating wound healing, marine collagen has also been shown to have anti-aging properties by slowing the aging process in mice [45,46,47,48]. Studies on humans have also shown that marine collagen can reduce wrinkles, improve skin elasticity, and enhance the overall structure and appearance of skin.”
That sums up the benefits. To my knowledge there is no downside to taking collagen. I’ve been taking collagen (not this brand,) for a number of years now and have noticed benefits, specifically with regards to my nails, hair and skin. This stuff really works.
This product only gives you 8 oz, but it’s priced accordingly. It’s cleanly sourced and is an American made product. It’s been tested for Chromium, lead, mercury, E. Coli, salmonella , yeast and mold.
