I bought this product for my 12 year old dog that recently had a bad couple of months of allergies. His immune system was pretty beaten up and he needed a boost. In the first week of taking this product he appeared more energetic and happy. It’s been two weeks now and he’s almost back to his old self. I will continue to buy this product for him and will probably try it myself! This product is expensive but because it’s 100% mushroom with no grains, mycelium or fillers, you’re getting the full benefits of the mushroom and you need less of it.

I believe in the power of mushrooms and this product is powerful! I mix it with one 20gr scoop of collagen, half a teaspoon of cinnamon, handful of blueberries, handful of walnuts and half a cup of coconut milk. It is perfect every time. It tastes like chocolate shake.

These just arrived yesterday and I am already in love. It is not common for people to feel anything the first time taking (most) supplements/extracts, but I definitely felt the effects when I had these yesterday evening. I am very in tune with my body and can tell when I have the slightest bit of seed oils, sugar, or dairy (excluding raw milk) and anything else that I normally do not consume. The taste was a little strong when I had it in turmeric & ginger tea last night. However, the 5 Blend went well in my coffee and I actually like the taste. I do drink my coffee black, so if you like to jazz up your coffee then I would probably add a little more jazz if putting these in it. I usually drink 3 cups of coffee in the morning, but today I feel completely wired with just two and I will try only having one tomorrow as I feel a little too wired for my liking.
If you are looking for specific benefits with using mushrooms then I would do your homework and see which ones work the best to achieve your goals. Also, do your research on the company with any supplements (I did and there are very few that are the real deal, Real Mushrooms is a rarity). Many mushroom extracts (as mentioned in other reviews) can literally be just grain and/or saw dust depending on the manufactures process. Plus, you will want to make sure that if they are coming out of China that they are grown in the mountains, as Real Mushrooms are. Otherwise, soil in the lower elevations of China are depleted and many times the produce will have higher levels of toxic elements.
Overall, even though it is only day two, I feel better. I can’t wait to see the benefits as they will only increase with continued use. I will try and update this review in 30 days with the benefits that I am seeing.

I love being able to support a Canadian company that has integrity – I will say I was somewhat surprised by the size of the bag & the amount in the bag but as soon as you start to use you can see immediately how concentrated this product is – for example, I mix 1/8 of a tsp ( which is considered a pinch ) I measure it – into my cat’s depleted wet food ( I use wet as a carrier to get supplements into her ) to support her microbiome which I have been building up over the last year and 1/2 with a food-grade probiotic so I have established a good base for a plentiful biome but want to feed her established biome so it can flourish so I came across the 5 defenders for both her and my self to use as a prebiotic to support her immune system and mine – I mixed this pinch into her food and it just expanded and expanded I was surprised how that pinch just took over and created such volume to the morsle of wet food I was using as the a carrier – of course I want her to lick up every last spec of this precious ingredient – I have been using 1/2 tsp measured into my morning coffee and it does not alter the taste that I can distinguish – Although the bag is small it will go along way – My second observation is I love mushrooms and buy them weekly and only organic but I am very fussy when it comes to mushroom – I like to have them raw with dip and defiantly like cooking with them but over the last 2 yrs the price has skyrocketed and to me the quality has gone down – I like my mushrooms pristine because I like to eat them raw if they show any signs of going down hill I can not eat them and then the next thing I know they have to be composted – I know I spend min 8 bucks a week on mushrooms and sometimes more and with all the shrooms I have wasted over the winter I just stopped buying because of the quality that has been out in the store so with that said this product will replace the fresh ones that I will only buy in season if I have a hankering for so really I am not spending much more than I normally would and the best part is no waste and I am positive I am getting way more benefits for my $ and less mess – I am sold and Thanks for such a great product – I will update in a few months on any efficacies I detect

I love this stuff! If you taste it on its own, it has a fragrant coffee-like bitterness from the reishi that honestly is nice in combo with stuff like coffee or chocolate. (From what I’ve heard you want your reishi to have a bitterness because that means it has potent levels of beneficial compounds.) Serving size is a 1/2 tsp, but in my hot chocolate recipe I only use 1/4 because I like the flavor balance better. I’m not a coffee drinker but would definitely recommend it in coffee — I think it would complement quite well.
It’s a fine powder, appears fresh and high quality, and the company is really detailed about their process and quality on their site. Really appreciate them and this was a great intro to adaptogenic mushrooms!
Be aware that the powder could stain as it’s very sensitive to moisture. Also you probably want to take a toothpick to the teeth of the ziplock when you first open it, because the powder is so fine that it really packs in there. I had trouble on first opening but after clearing it I’ve had no issue closing it. Just pay close attention to make sure it really closes, or just transfer to another container.

UPDATE: I give 5 Defenders Mushroom powder to my 12 year old Lab, Shadow, and am very happy with it, but have removed one star from my original review because the product forms hard, medium-to-large clumps in the container after about four or five months. (It is stored in a kitchen cabinet away from heat and light and has never gotten damp.) Some large clumps are so hard they must be broken with the back of a spoon since I cannot break them by hand. This is annoying, but I’m able to judge the size of the smaller clumps, rub one between my fingers and sprinkle approximately 1/4 tsp of powder over Shadow’s food and mix it in. ORIGINAL POST: For the past three years I’ve been giving my 70# Lab mix a mushroom complex made for dogs because it can help fight and/or prevent cancer. Shadow still has had some tumor activity, but to date they have been benign. I am happy with this product and feel that it helping keep 12 year old Shadow feeling young, active and tumor free. ORIGINAL POST: When three benign tumors were removed from his chest in late Spring, my vet suggested using a high potency, human grade combination of various mushroom types. Once a day I mix 1/4 teaspoon of Five Defenders Mushroom Extract powder into Shadow’s breakfast and have been l delighted with the results…two small fatty tumors under his front legs have completely disappeared.
