This is a fantastic tub of calcium carbonate. Nice and large, so it should last me awhile, and you get a great value for the amount. I actually use it as an acid reducer and pH balancer for cooking or wine/beer making instead of baking soda, which can sometimes leave an off taste. This is very neutral, while being able to adjust the pH balance to the appropriate spot for more acidic foods or drinks. All in all, does the trick, and is a great value! Highly recommended!

When my dog suddenly needed a low-protein diet, I was dismayed at the price of ready made low-protein dog food. I found a recipe and set about making my own supply but the recipe called for Calcium Carbonate Powder. I’m thinking, ‘What the heck is Calcium Carbonate Powder?’ Off I went to my favorite you-can-get-it-here retailer. Yep, Amazon. I found this product for a good price. So, there really is an EASY method to open the container when it arrives, that unfortunately I did not see until 3 temper tantrums and a tall glass of wine later,….. If you look at the rim edge of the cover/lid, there should be small indentured areas approximately every 2-3 inches around. Some appear to be “filled in” but regardless they are thinner than the entire lid material. I simply used a flathead screwdriver and once through the plastic, I twisted the screwdriver approximately a full twist and it “popped” the plastic. Continue this all around the entire rim edge and you should be left with plenty of small grip areas to pop the lid right off. I suppose you would be able to use a good pair of smaller trimming scissors, but I found it difficult to position them under the rim enough in order to be able to make a cut through it (and by that time and well into my 2nd tall glass of wine, it probably was safer decision to stick with a blunt screwdriver and stay away from sharper objects such as trimming scissors)!
The lid does make a great seal and basically snaps back onto place. However to be sure I would not have tiny dry bead-like balls of calcium carbonate powder, I did fold a piece of “cut and seal” wrap (a saran wrap product) in half, large enough to cover the container opening and placed that over the opening prior to replacing and sealing the lid. I have reopened it numerous times, even a few months between uses and the calcium carbonate is still as fresh and powdery as the first day I opened it up, a HUGE factor for a flawless finish that will not require sanding, as seen with DYI chalk paint. I honestly wish it were available in much larger containers, similar to the size of a 5 gallon pail/bucket. I am starting my own Upscaled furniture business and to have the option of purchasing such large quantities would be far worth the benefit of always having it on hand vs having to worry about not ordering enough ahead of time, to avoid waiting on deliveries. The quality of the container itself and the lid and far beyond expectations and can easily be stacked up a few high, without any doubts that the lid will not support the weight.

I was actually surprised at just how good this product is. It is totally flavorless and does the job. It does not totally mix in or dissolve if you put it in a liquid such as a beverage so you kind of need to do some re-stirs. This is not at all bothersome. There have even been a few times when I was desperate for heartburn relief quickly and just popped a little bit of the powder in my mouth, slightly less than a teaspoon and it gave instant relief.

I purchased the Calcium Carbonate powder to add to my morning coffee to reduce the acid. I had been purchasing the little packets of Coffee Tamer but they lasted only a month or so. By paying just a few more dollars I bought a gallon of CC! I’m sure this will last me a long time. I also sprinkle a tiny bit on my toothbrush along with toothpaste to help remineralize my teeth. Occasionally I paint furniture, so I will separate some powder into another container to make chalk paint.
