Pink Stork Total Prenatal Vitamins with DHA, Folate, and Iron, 3 Month Supply to Help Support Fetal Development, Pregnancy Must Haves – 180 Capsules

The product does what it says and needs to do. There’s no perfect prenatal out there that has EVERY vitamin or supplement a pregnant women needs but this one has the most compared to others i’ve seen. Iron and dha a plus. i’ve felt less weak taking these. Although it tastes and smells terrible, i’d rather be healthy and have a healthy baby than it be tasty. It’s easy to take too and i suck at taking pills. It would be great if there were more capsules in one container since they are a little more expensive so i do have to buy more…

I love this prenatal. I take it before I go to sleep and I haven’t had any horrible symptoms. I’ve tried others that make me sick (headaches, nausea, burps) but this one delivered and I haven’t been sick at all. Although they might have a slight fishy smell—if you swallow fast you won’t notice.

I love this company in general, they have great practices and amazing products. I discovered them at the end of my last pregnancy, the teas are delicious!
I recently started taking to prenatal and I love that there is a sent thing in the bottle so it smells like fruit snacks!! The ingredients are what I am looking for! I highly recommend!

I’ve taken other prenatals that add to nausea. I really love these, have had no side effects and they have very clean ingredients and it smells good when you open the bottle. I don’t mind taking them at all and just ordered my second batch. Definitely recommend

No smell, easy to swallow. OB wanted me to increase my foliate intake on top of the prenatal vitamins. Instantly checked to see if Pink Stork had an option. Was so happy that they did! I have been taking Pink Stork products my entire pregnancy and haven’t had any of the issue that I have heard other women complain about who switch up between brands.

Love this brand no weird taste or smell and easy on my stomach.

They have a flavor insert heart which the first time I received them was a nice touch. It made everything lemon scented and flavored–so you don’t smell some of the less pleasing ingredients. It was AMAZING! So amazing I reordered… Well this time they had a different scent/flavor and it was supposed to be strawberry but it was terrible. Made these super hard to swallow. They tasted and smelled like something was rotten– which was not great for someone with an already sensitive stomach… I feel awful with the prospect of wasting these as I’ve bragged about the brand to others, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish these.. They’re just that bad… If they switched back to the lemon or at least gave an option to select lemon instead of giving you a random flavor I’d gladly re-order and come back.

I purchased and began taking this product preemptively because my husband and I plan to try to conceive in a few months (My doctor, like many doctors, recommends beginning to take prenatals before you try to conceive). However, taking this product caused me to have irregular menstrual cycles, as well as many other negative symptoms and side effects. I do NOT recommend this product for that reason. If you decide to try this product out before you try to conceive and begin to experience the same symptoms I did, I recommend stopping immediately – your symptoms are likely to get worse, not better, the longer you continue taking it. I’ve shared my story below in case it’s helpful to anyone who may be experiencing similar symptoms and wondering if this product is the cause.
As background information, my cycles always have been extremely regular. After I began taking this product, however, my cycles were instantly thrown off and I’m still trying to recover over six weeks later.
Here’s the timeline of events:
Cycle 1
-I received the product and began a half dose (one pill) once a day (I figured a half dose would be fine, and I could up the dose closer to conception/pregnancy). I began taking the product about a week into my cycle.
-On day 2 of starting the product, I began to have odd symptoms – feeling hot, jittery, extremely hungry, and generally off; On day 4, I ovulated 2-3 days earlier than I usually do (confirmed by OPK strip); on Day 5, the above symptoms had increased, and I also had an itchy neck (presumably thyroid-related due to location).
-I decided to switch to taking one pill every other day, but by that time I already ovulated early (confirmed by OPK strip); my period also came 2-3 days early that cycle as well. I also started to get massive acne breakouts towards the end of my cycle, which is unusual for me.
Cycle 2
-I continued to take the product every other day for about a week into my next cycle (still just one pill, so a half dose every other day). My symptoms, while not as bad as they were during the stretch when I took the product for five days straight, were still present and still negatively impacting my quality of life. I decided to discontinue use.
-After discontinuing use, I ovulated 8 days later than I normally do (two weeks after discontinuing the product completely). My acne breakouts cleared up over the course of two weeks. My appetite issues and jitteriness went away within a few days of discontinuing the product.
-As of now (Day 31 of my cycle when I normally have very regular 28 day cycles), I am still waiting for my period to come, and expect it to be (very) late as well, since I ovulated very late.
As you can see, this product had a very negative affect on me, which is especially concerning given that I only took a half dose, and quickly switched to a half dose every other day for the month or so that I took it. Nothing else about my life or lifestyle changed during this period of time, so this product was 100% the cause of my symptoms.
To be honest, I don’t know for certain why my body reacted this way to this product. However, I have seen other reviewers comment that this caused irregular cycles for them as well, so I know I’m not the only one this happened to. I do have one theory, however, because I’ve taken all the vitamins contained in this product before with no issues except one: Iodine. I have not taken supplemental iodine prior to taking this product, so I have to assume that’s the source of the issue. The fact that I had an itchy neck (since the thyroid is affected by iodine intake) further supports this theory, as does the fact that reproductive hormones are impacted by changes to thyroid hormones.
I am not an expert in this area, but it appears there is a high dose of iodine in this product (290mcg); this meets or exceeds the RDA of iodine for pregnant women (220-250mcg) and lactating women (250mcg-290mcg), and given that we already get some iodine from food, would likely put anyone consuming it above the RDA. (All figures from the American Thyroid Association). I only ever took a half dose, which would be 145mcg; the RDA for non-pregnant adults is 150mcg a day. Lastly, I have seen conflicting evidence on the tolerable upper limit, but 1,100mcg of iodine seems to be a commonly quoted number.
I don’t have enough information to say definitively why taking in 145mcg of extra iodine affected me so much, but I do believe this was what caused my symptoms. I do not know how this extra iodine would affect me during pregnancy, so I plan to purchase different prenatals with lower amounts of iodine and playing it by ear.
