This was a gift for someone else. She used it and said it worked so I guess it works.

This breathing comb has a little strap to keep it around your wrist. I really didn’t think this was a thing but my daughter was having a baby and the doula suggested that we get one of these Combs it helps distract from the pain of birth. It’s a high quality well-made comb. I like that is a natural approach to pain management and birth.

This birth comb was as I expected. Smooth wood and easy to grip during labor and contractions. The wood had pleasant aroma as well. I would recommend this product to those going the natural approach method of birth. It was my first birth and zero meds thank the Lord.

Why I got this: I got this comb to try and relieve without drugs the pain in my lower right back. I don’t think I’m allowed to describe it any better than that. But what I can tell you is that it absolutely works: My personal opinion is that it doesn’t lessen the ACTUAL pain in my back–what it DOES DO is to create enough discomfort my my hand as I squeeze it that it takes away the SENSATION of pain in my back.
The comb itself: The comb has an unusual but not unpleasant scent. I don’t know whether the comb is sandalwood or not because I don’t know what sandalwood smells like. There is a strap attached to the end of the comb. The strap feels almost like a rubber band, although it doesn’t stretch as much as a rubber band does.
The case: Is what I would call typical “Chinese leather”, which is to say it’s most likely not leather, although I confess that I don’t know what it actually is. My experience with the fit of the comb in the case is that it fit fine–It was neither too tight nor too loose. However, I couldn’t see any reason to keep the case so I tossed it out.
The way I use the comb: The comb is NOT bi-directional–there is a “big” end and a “small” end. I use it in my left hand with “big” end closest to my thumb and forefinger. That means that the strap is closest to my pinkie finger and is hanging down. The proper position should feel pretty obvious when you get it right. Then I squeeze hard enough to leave depressions in the skin of my palm. After a few minutes the sensation of pain in my back is significantly less.
In conclusion, this device worked for me and I recommend it.

The comb, despite being wood, felt very strong, with the top handle part being thick and the bristles, while narrow, were also pretty strong. I squeezed it a few times and nothing happened to the comb while also providing some pinpoint on the hand. Afterwards, it didn’t leave any marks. The top had a good curve to use to hold onto it and I think it does the job for pregnancy but also to use as a replacement as a stress relief squeeze toy.

Good size for most hands. I like the strap so they can let go after a contraction ends and easily get it back.

This makes a great baby shower gift. It is very well made and works as expected. It helped me so much during my birth. I would highly recommend to anyone expecting.

i think the current price (about $8) is fair for this item. the teeth are pokey but not super sharp, the spine of the comb is rounded… so the comb is comfortable to hold and squeeze without injury to hand. the case that it comes with is kinda gross, like a stiff cheap felt… but i guess it does the job of keeping the comb protected in your purse or whatever.
