UPDATE:
Okay, so we took this a few days ago. I gave my 3 yo 12ml because the directions are really vague… it says 15ml-45ml for 2-12 year old. I gave him a little less than the minimum because I wasn’t sure how it would work. The day I gave it to him, he had clumpy small poops, but not the big turd that has been in there for a week. Yesterday he had small bouts of diarrhea ALL DAY! I had to put him in a diaper because he was having diarrhea so often. There were times I would change him, walk in the next room to get a new pair of pants and come back out and he would be crying that he pooped again. And it wasn’t large amounts, just little splats that he couldn’t control. Well he finally passed a massive turd and the diarrhea continued. His butt is freaking raw because he is constantly pooping. I changed him well over 20 times yesterday. We almost went through a whole pack of diapers and a whole tube of butt cream. I literally have to hold him down to wipe his butt now because it hurts so bad. We are currently on day 3 and he is still having diarrhea, but not nearly as bad. It’s enough to keep him in a diaper, but not as constant as yesterday. I’m praying this is our last day because the bottle says “up to 72 hours”. I am so frustrated that the directions are not more specific and that my little guy is having to go through this. If you purchase this, be cautious! It was torture seeing my kiddo in pain with constipation and now it’s torture seeing him have diarrhea every 5 minutes with a raw butt.
Oh man, this stuff tastes awful. If your kiddo has a tough time with medicine in general, I would not suggest getting this because you will have a really hard time getting them to take it. My 3 year old is a pretty good eater and never fights me on syrups but even I feel bad making him take this because it’s so tart. My husband and I tried it before giving it to him and even we had a hard time. I’ve tried different juices to mix with it, but it’s really hard cutting the flavor. You end up with a huge portion of juice just to mask the taste (that’s still there) and then it’s hard for a little guy to drink that much juice in one day. We didn’t have any luck with it either. It made him poop but very small, clumpy quarter sized type poops. It didn’t help release the massive turd that we all know is dying to come out. I don’t know why they don’t sell this by the bottle. It’s annoying that you have to buy 3.

This stuff tastes bad but it WORKS. If the kids are constipated, we usually start with Miralax to get the kids back to baseline and then use this to prevent future problems. They get constipated again within days if we don’t intervene, and it would be unfun to use Miralax regularly. The PediaLax keeps their stool from getting hard, so they stop being resistant and scared of going potty, but there is no urgency or accidents. I find that the recommended doses are not necessary, we use way less. Closer to a quarter of a teaspoon, either daily or every other day. Using less also makes it a lot easier to mask the flavor. For comparison, we have tried a liquid stool softener that was special ordered from the pharmacy, and the PediaLax was so far and away better tasting. (The other one made me gag, whereas the Pedia Lax is merely unpalatable.) We mix it with either orange juice or chocolate milk, or use the flavored straws. Chocolate flavors have worked better than orange juice, and other juices do not seem to help at all. Both the toddler and preschooler have gotten used to it, and they do not love it, but usually do not fuss much taking it. When we’re consistent about it, we avoid constipation and have eliminated bed wetting. If I skipped a few days, bed wetting would start up again, so this has helped during the day and helped us reduce interruptions to our sleep.

* I was initially writing a less than 5-star review because for the first time ever (we have been ordering this for years), we received an order with only two boxes inside. The plastic on the medicine was cut and one box was missing. I was livid. I immediately chatted with someone at Amazon, since it was late when I realized the problem. They were apologetic and advised they would forward my concerns to the packers, etc. They verified if I wanted a refund or a replacement. Before the chat was over, a replacement had been submitted and I received the new package today with 3 boxes inside. For that reason and because this product has worked for our granddaughter for years, I am giving 5-stars as usual. It doesn’t make her have diarrhea and really helps in making her stools softer and easier to pass. I had stopped buying it for a little while and tried other things, but we definitely saw a difference. 🥲 My daughter recently made an appointment with a gastroenterologist for her and he looked at this and said it is safe to give to her. I will continue giving this to her because it does work! I must admit, it has a horrible taste, but she is able to deal with that to prevent being in pain.
