The product has a nice consistency to it, and it absorbs into my skin easily. I have sensitive skin so have been taking it easy with applying it sparingly. I have had no untoward effects so far such as dryness or irritation, but I feel that any benefits the product has to offer will take time. Overall, Paula’s Choice is a great brand, and I would recommend the product.

I’ve been using this Paula’s Choice Pro Retinaldehyde Dual-Retinoid Advanced Treatment for a few weeks now. While I really like the way it leaves my skin feeling, I honestly can’t tell if using it is making any real difference to the appearance of my skin.
Citizen of Earth –
I like the way my skin feels after a week of using this cream. I am usually sensitive to retinol creams and this one is no different in that it causes me to peel. The scent is very faint and mostly unnoticeable. It’s not greasy, but still hydrating. I haven’t noticed any extraordinary benefits to justify the higher than average price.

I’ve used this Paula’s Choice Pro retinaldehyde moderately for a little while now, because it suggests starting slow with retinol. The yellow color shocked me when it came out, but nothing that changes the quality of the product! I do not detect any smell from this product which is nice. It is creamy and rubs into my skin well, leaving no greasy residue or anything. I have not observed any drying or irritation with use on my face. I don’t struggle with breakouts, but do have some fine lines and some irregular textures. I feel my face is smoother after using, but I feel more time will be needed to see if there is long term changes in fine lines/wrinkles. I do like this product though. Will continue use and see the effects long term.
Lover of All Things Beauty –
This comes just the bottle, no outer product box. But the top is sealed. This is made in the USA. It’s in a bottle that is opaque and airless so the formula won’t be harmed by light or air.
This has 0.16% Adapinoid® (oleyl adapalenate – an oil-soluble retinoid) and 0.1% retinaldehyde (retinal). Retinaldehyde is the strongest OTC retinoid because it only takes 1 step to convert to retinoic acid. Retinol is the second strongest OTC retinoid because it takes 2 steps to convert to retinoic acid – retinol first converts to retinaldehyde, and then from retinaldehyde into retinoic acid.
This is a bright yellow color, which I was happy to see. Retinoids should be some form of yellow. The color can often be a sign of the potency of a retinoid product. In its purest form, retinoids are yellow. So most GOOD retinoid creams/serums will be SOME shade of yellow. The more intense the yellow, the more Retinoid it has in it. If it is white in color, it COULD mean it doesn’t have enough retinoid in it to actually be effective. UNLESS it’s encapsulated or mixed with other ingredients (like titanium dioxide) to reduce the color. So, just looking for it to be yellow in color isn’t the best indicator. It can still be very effective and not be yellow. But, it’s something to look for and, if it isn’t yellow, then it should be encapsulated or have something in it to reduce the yellow color (like titanium dioxide). Thankfully, this is a bright yellow color, which I was happy to see.
I also was happy to see retinal as the 9th ingredient and oleyl adapalenate is 15th ingredient.
This glides onto the skin easily. It absorbs quickly. It didn’t leave my skin with any kind of residue or sticky feeling. I have dry to normal skin and this hasn’t dried out my skin at all. My skin actually felt pretty hydrated after applying it. I still applied my regular moisturizer. But sometimes after applying retinoid serums, my skin can feel a little tight or dry. But not with this one. I was happy about that. It does have hydrating ingredients in it, which I think helps balance out the retinal and retinoid. It feels nice on the skin. I haven’t had any irritation at all. I’m used to using retinaldehyde though so I didn’t expect any.
I haven’t been using this long enough to speak to long term results, but from my experience with retinaldehyde, I expect this to be effective. But, not all are made equal, so it might not work as well as the one I’ve been using. So, if I see any fine lines or dark spots start to creep back up, I’ll switch back to my original one and update this review. For now, give it 5 stars.

Paula’s Choice Pro-Retinaldehyde Dual-Retinoid Advanced Treatment is designed to provide anti-aging benefits, targeting fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture while remaining gentle on the skin. This product combines two advanced retinoid forms—retinaldehyde and granactive retinoid—offering a high-performance, fast-acting formula without the irritation often associated with retinoids.
Texture & Application:
The texture is lightweight, slightly creamy, and absorbs quickly, leaving skin with a smooth finish. This non-greasy feel makes it suitable for layering with other serums and moisturizers, and it’s gentle enough to use nightly for those already familiar with retinoids.
Results:
With consistent use over 6-8 weeks, users generally report visible improvements in skin smoothness, diminished fine lines, and improved brightness. The retinaldehyde ingredient is known to be effective in renewing skin cells faster than traditional retinol, providing quicker results without irritation. Many users notice smoother texture and clearer pores after just a few weeks.
Pros:
Effective dual-retinoid formula.
Noticeable improvements in fine lines and texture with regular use.
Gentle for a retinoid, minimal irritation even for sensitive skin.
Fragrance-free and paraben-free, suitable for most skin types.
Cons:
Can be pricey compared to basic retinol products.
May require a gradual introduction to avoid dryness or mild irritation in sensitive skin.
Packaging may not allow you to see how much product remains.
Overall Impression:
Paula’s Choice Pro-Retinaldehyde Dual-Retinoid is an excellent choice for those seeking a high-performance, science-backed anti-aging treatment that’s less likely to cause irritation. If you’re looking for smoother skin and a reduction in fine lines, this is a worthwhile investment, especially if you’ve struggled with the harshness of other retinoids.
