I really enjoy these meat sticks. They are great for a high protein / low carb diet. A stick has 80 calories, 2 grams of carbs and 14 grams of protein. Just exactly what my dietician would order.
They are just a little too hot for me to eat them very often. I’ve switched to the Sweet and Spicy from the same company.

Taste isnt the best, but its not Beef Jerky. Calories are great 14g of Protein and little fat. Great for backpacking trips. I dice them up and add them to my Tuna or Chicken / Rice or Potato combo when out on the trial for the extra Protein. The other flavors are probably a better bet because I personally dont like these by themselves. Taste like poo LOL – Im not going to knock a star for that though, because thats just a preference. I will say I am not a picky eater. I like everything, especially different ethnicity foods so maybe that will tell you how it I feel about the taste. My assumption is the ones with flavor are probably better or maybe Im just not use to the ELK flavor? I can barely if at all taste the Teriyako – I would still buy again just for the calorie intake alone. Thats what bodybuilders do right?

After eating these for a solid year now, daily, I have a lot of opinions about Ostrim’s habanero beef/elk:
PROS – This is great for intermittent fasters who are ready to break fast. Pop this in, and you’re getting the protein/fat boost you need for a solid 30 mins before you delve into carbs. This is a very beefy bar, and the taste is perfect. There’s nothing gamey, and since I like spicy things, the habanero kick is definitely there and accepted. If you have a problem with spicy, it could be a little suprising to you at first. The finish doesn’t leave a greasy taste in your mouth; it’s certainly salty, but very good overall (a great way to get your water in!) The wrapper is simple to open, and a box of these is actually a great value. The taste and density has overcomed the negatives to this point until I can find a more affordable grass-fed/finished product.
CONS – As it’s a sausage, it’s of course going to be contained in casing. Unwrapping it can be a chore, and the very fact that I have to do this removes some of the convenience of simple opening/eating. The fact that this doesn’t have an organic or grass-fed/finished designation does bother me, but I don’t think elk can qualify for that, right?

i ordered these as well as the ostrich sticks and i can honestly say that i really enjoy them. recently diagnosed with diabetes (and i have high cholesterol), as well as being a generally sloppy/lazy eater – i was looking for something i could snack on when i was being my lazy self, while still actually caring about the overall nutritional quality. i kept most at work so that when i would be running late, i could grab one as well as a couple other items (nuts & dried fruit) so that i was not not eating anything for an extended period of time. they are well packaged in heavy plastic and light weight. they are perfect for the trail, biking, before or after exercising, or just a mid day snack if you have scrimped on another meal. while i still believe in limiting my intact of this type of snack; i can tell you i will not be buying meat sticks from the grocer or gas station. i passed a lot of these out to others and everyone enjoyed them as well.

Beware, the recipe was changed on the new green label product. Twice the sodium and fat of the previous red label.
The nutrition label was shown for the red label product I ordered. Therefore, I provided the green label here with my review for comparison.
I was sent this new green label version, and the sodium is crazy high, 650mg of sodium and also 6g total fat…. Too much sodium for me and I was expecting a lower fat content too.
The lower sodium I saw was the reason I ordered the Ostrim product. But I was disappointed that they increased it in the new recipe. This newer recipe won’t work well with my diet. But maybe you will not mind.
Flavor – is good but way too much salt and slightly sweet, but it doesn’t taste very spicy at all. There is also not very much of an elk flavor, definitely more beef than elk.
I can’t return so will likely donate to a local food bank or give away to friends.
