I purchased this product because I have very sensitive skin and I’m trying to combat perioral dermatitis and really crappy adult acne that’s been going on for 10 years now. My skin doesn’t like fragrances, alcohol, and come to find out over the course of the lockdown it really hates most soaps because of the SLSs. Heck, it even hates water past a certain temperature. This product however is one of the very few things I can put on my face and it not react negatively to. It comes as a fairly small bar, but a little goes a long way for sure with this product, so I foresee it lasting me a good long while. I use it just once a day before bed. The fragrance is like pine, bergamot, and a little citrus and if you can’t imagine what that smells like, well… Imagine your local Whole Foods. You’ll know what I’m talking about once you order it for yourself. A bit masculine, but not so much that it bothers me, and the smell definitely lasts after you’ve washed it off. There is a slight tacky feeling when you are washing it off, which is like any bar soap you’ll use honestly, but it doesn’t leave a residue or any unpleasant feeling behind on the face. Always leaves my skin refreshed, smooth, and radiant. It seems like it helps with my overall redness too. I’m using this in combination with the Cera Ve moisturizing cream/lotion (depending on dryness level) and a shift in my regular skincare routine, and so far this has been the best decision I’ve ever made when it comes to my skin. Highly recommend this product!

I purchased this product specifically for perioral dermatitis because of the recommendations. I’ve suffered from this for about 9 years, but it has become extremely stubborn the last year. I purchased this very expensive soap in hopes it would help clear it up, as I have tried everything. I have been using it for just over 3 weeks and it has made it substantially worse. So bad it has now spread from around my mouth to around my nose. Doesn’t work for everyone and it is extremely expensive whether you buy it here or directly from the website because of shipping. It’s also a super tiny bar of soap.

Nie wieder lasse ich was anders an mein Gesicht dran!

When the bar came, it was as small as I had expected, based on other reviews and the picture showing the dimensions. I ordered it because the perioral dermatitis I had suffered from previously had flared up again after couple years of semi decent skin (I had been diagnosed with perioral dermatitis, adult acne, and rosacea). The thing that helped my skin calm down before was azaleic acid cream and cleansing my face with dandruff shampoo using an ultrasonic cleaner.
About 5 months ago, about 5 months postpartum and after sketchy use of the azaleic cream, I noticed a couple patches of skin near the sides of my mouth starting to show signs of the perioral dermatitis returning. I tried being more consistent with the cream and saw some improvement, but it didn’t go away. Over the course of the next few months, it worsened. Then, a little more than a month ago, it flared into a full fledged perioral dermatitis relapse.
I brushed up on my knowledge of the condition. It is usually triggered by steroid cream use (so the person’s review who was using steroid cream to treat it was making it worse, not better). It mostly affects women and is believed to be associated with hormone fluctuations.
I haven’t touched steroid cream in years, but have had hormone changes since having a baby 10 months ago. I also think that the final worsening may have also been related to decreased moisture in the air after our humidifier broke.
The solution: typical medical treatment relies heavily on oral antibiotics. Since I am breastfeeding and have been dealing with thrush problems, I really didn’t want to go that route. I did pull out my clindamycin (sp?) from before and I continued use of the azaleic acid cream. I switched to a natural toothpaste without fluoride, which some sites say makes pd worse. Because of how flaky my skin had become, I started using coconut oil, but a friend convinced me to switch to a water based gel type moisturizer made by Neutrogena. I already used makeup infrequently, but I had to battle the desire to cover up my hideous skin. Finally, I decided to give Osmia Organics Black Clay soap a try. I only use it once a day and keep it outside the shower, to help maintain it as long as possible.
Even treated with oral antibiotics, pd can take awhile to respond to treatment. It takes patience. Happily, the rash has improved, slow and steady. It has been about 3 or 4 weeks since I started use of this soap and I feel like I’m about 65% back to normal and continue to improve. It took 3 months to achieve the same progress with topical medication only last time. I am pleased to make faster progress this time.
I took one star off for the ridiculously high price for such a small bar of soap (or even if it were a typical size bar).

I was so skeptical when I received this, as it is so small. My expectations were not very high… let me tell you that I will never purchase any other makeup remover product after using this for the last 5 months. I was a die hard Tatcha rice water makeup remover user… this little bar is even better! After daily use for the last 5 months, my bar is still going strong! I am certain it will last me for another 6 months or so. I purchased the pumpkin one. It has zero pumpkin scent, but I am absolutely addicted to the heavenly earthy, lightly floral scent. If they would make this in a fragrance I would purchase it immediately!! I can’t say enough good about this little bar! It removes all of my makeup (including waterproof mascara), and leaves my face feeling refreshed and soft. Does not leave any soap residue or make my face feel tight or dry. I am 55 years old and have also purchased for my daughters (in their 20’s and 30’s). Buy it and I promise you will love it!

Osmia is one of my favorite skincare lines. I alternate between this black clay soap and the rose clay. I love both equally! The black clay provides excellent facial cleansing and although it may seem expensive for a small bar of soap it will last 4-6 months with twice daily cleansing. It does not leave my skin dry or stripped and I highly recommend.

I liked the clean feeling I had after washing my face with this soap. It was very expensive so i cut in half and only use one half at a time and then it lasted a longer time.

A lot of people discover this soap likely because of their struggles with perioral dermatitis. The soap did not “cure” my perioral dermatitis because the underlying reason turned out to be hormonal, but it did not irritate my skin either. In fact, it leaves my skin feeling soft and clean. The bar is small, but it lasts a decent amount of time (if you are using a soap saver underneath it). My husband and I both use this soap and have been buying it for a while now.

Pros: I got this after seeing someone post it–I’ve been trying to reduce my skin care products lately. My skin isn’t super sensitive, but it does flare up a little when I switch products. I’ve had zero flare up and my skin feels great! Also, the bar is about an inch thick and 2 inches wide. After using it every day morning and night for 3 weeks, I can hardly tell that it has been used! So, it will definitely last awhile–I am so happy with this product!
Cons: The only con I have found with this product is that it will burn your eyes terribly! I have no idea how I even managed to get this in my eyes…I don’t think I have ever had soap in my eyes, but I will say that this will burn for a solid 45-60 seconds, so definitely use caution haha–user error on this one.
