Apparently some people don’t experience the pins and needles throughout their entire body for 45 minutes after taking niacin, but I do. Originally I was taking 500mg and trying to figure out if there was a time I could take it that I would be asleep when it kicked in or if I could take a cold shower while my skin was burning and flushing or maybe on a full stomach, but I could never find a way to try and take niacin daily without anticipating and then being in pain for nearly 2 hours. I tried 250mg, no better.
Finally, FINALLY I found a lower dose and I can tolerate without feeling like I have road rash all over my body. If I take it on an empty stomach I will get the slightest burn but I hardly even notice it. As long as I’ve eaten beforehand, I don’t get any reaction at all from it. Is it mitigating the benefit of it? Perhaps, but I’m taking it to try and help combat high Lp(A) readings until something else is on the market that can actually reduce those values.
I’m very happy to have found these and hope they continue to be manufactured for those of us sensitive to niacin.
I had an allergic reaction to this medication. My heart race and my entire body turned red and I was very uncomfortable. (However, I realize that’s because of me and not because of the medication, so I didn’t mark it as 1 star.) Be careful and aware while taking this. At least for the first few times!! Almost had to go to the ER. Very scary.
So I have mixed reviews here. While I’m aure that the product itself is quite decent I had a reaction that I now have come to know as “The Niacin Flush”. I took a capsule as soon as I got them. I was excited. I had just bought several new supplements and I was eager to try them. Well about 1-1 1/12 hours later I started feeling hot. Ok I need to turn my aor on. A few minutes after that my lips started burning, then my face, and finally my chest and arms are 🔥 burning on fire. I felt as though I was being attacked by fire ants and needles all at the same time and at the rate of the speed of light! I didn’t know what was happening. I was waiting for my throat to close. I yell to my husband “something is wrong, I need a doctor stat. My throat never started closing so I calmed down by the slightest bit and began to think ” What in the H.E. double hockey sticks is going on? What did i do?” After racking my brain, all the while feeling like I was being microwaved it dawned on me…….could it be the niacin? So I head to my doctor on call…Google…and find out that yes indeed it was the Niacin Flush. Perfectly harmless, so they say. Upon further reading I found that there is a whole slew of folks that LIKE the way it feels. I myself absofrickenlutely am not one of them. So to anyone who is not familiar with this I say..BEWARE.
This Niacin causes flushing , which is specifically why I am taking it 3 times daily to improve cholesterol – it works very well for me and I recommend it to friends.
Excellent product. Because I take 325mg of Aspirin per day – I barely have the Niacin Flush. This is another reason it’s beneficial to take aspirin. I take 2,000mg of this Niacin per day 1,000mg in the morning and 1,000mg in the evening. I’ve ordered twice from this seller and Amazon does an excellent job of shipping fast. Thanks!
So much of the Niacin I looked at had the information that it was flush free. When I LIKE this part, which is caused by all of those tiny capillaries being dilated; bringing all of that cleansing to your skin and other places, like the capillaries in your brain.
What I get in about 15 minutes is a wonderful body calmness that tapers off after a few hours, only it will continue in my thoughts and attitude for much longer.
The first time I took a couple of tablets was when I was learning about vitamins about 40 years ago, and at a friend’s suggestion: (“You won’t believe how this feels!”) It was very irritating, it made me hot and itch, and scratching didn’t do anything but make it worse…! (They were all pointing and laughing!)
But it is now a pleasure. I don’t do this daily, but maybe once a month. Niacin is one of those vitamins they give to people at Health Spas so they “know something is happening” because they can feel it. But it’s more than just a cheap sensation.
