I went to a doctor in January of this year (2014) to address mid-life physical and emotional changes, inflammation, insomnia and depression/anxiety. Lab tests indicated slightly elevated blood sugar after fasting, and imbalance in estrogen, testosterone and progesterone levels. He did not test my adrenals, but put me on liquid zinc and magnesium supplements, a capsule form of rhodiola rosea, a supplement for sleep, and supplements to balance sex hormones (which I’ll review later). It was a very expensive undertaking. I tried this regimen for a month, along with a diet of protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and a dinner of 4 oz of protein and leafy vegetables for dinner—total caloric intake under 1,000 calories a day. I did feel much sharper mentally, my inflammation was somewhat less, but I was SO EXHAUSTED by late afternoon I felt like I was going to pass out and couldn’t do my regular 3 hours of exercise per week. I lost 9 lbs in a month, but I still couldn’t sleep. I kept this up for as long as I could stand it, having reached a frustrating plateau in weight loss, all the while researching alternatives to what my intuition told me was adrenal exhaustion.
I started DSF Formula in late June and I’m seeing a significant difference in my energy levels (no more extreme fatigue in the afternoon), depression/anxiety levels and weight. I’m eating more—I still do the shakes for breakfast and lunch, but have added 2 more oz. of protein and a sweet potato to my evening meal 3 times per week and a handful of raw almonds for a snack—and I’m able to exercise again. Six pounds lost in two weeks is unheard of for me. I’ve just added Forskolin to my regimen for blood sugar regulation, and I’m eager to see what difference, if any, it makes.
I’m also back on Nature’s Sunshine Yucca (I’d stopped taking it for a while) for inflammation, and where the DSF Formula worked to alleviate some of it, the Yucca kicked in and picked up the slack. I can actually get through a day without anti-inflammatory medications.
Finding out what works for your body is a painstaking, expensive process. It takes patience and persistence. I’m grateful for the reviews I’ve read here and on other sites (they’re a wonderful aid) and wish you the best in finding what you need.

I have tried several of the adrenal “support” supplements of Amazon for about 1.5 years and felt nothing improved. Cortisol levels have been tested and they were repeatedly very low and was debating on just giving up and resorting to an Rx for the problem. Then decided to give it one more try and looked for something with actual adrenal in it. Since this was rated highly, and not by people getting free products, I decided to try it. I actually seems to work. I started with just one in the mornings but my problem was the “afternoon slump” so started a second pill in the afternoons. I won’t’ stay I’m running marathons but this genuinely has improved my energy levels and I also think my mood. I’m not falling asleep in the afternoons, or having to caffeine up to stay awake, which is a positive change. I am trying to avoid having to take an Rx for my deleted adrenal glands and hope with some time that this supplement might be able to help heal the adrenals after decades of stress draining the life out of them. I would definitely recommend these for people that tested having low adrenal (cortisol) levels or even people that just need a pick-me-up or energy boost. It doesn’t feel like you drank of cup of coffee – it is more gentle and less agitating – but you can feel it. I think it took about a month before I actually noticed I was feeling better. I just swallow the pill whole and can’t comment on the whole versus chewing them debate. Suppose there might be some merit in chewing them to help absorption. I’m ordering my second bottle now.

I purchased Nutri-West DSF Formula after reading about them on another site for adrenal fatigue. Apparent some chiropractors actually carry it, though I could not find it locally. It contains glandulars, antioxidants and assorted vitamins and minerals. It’s great during stressful periods when the adrenals tend to be overworked.
While it did help me and seemed to give me more energy, the cost is rather high and there are other comparable products on the market available much cheaper. I believe this one has quite a following as chiropractors carry it and/or recommend it, which is fine, but I need to be mindful of the financial aspect, too. Adrenal health has come more to the forefront in the supplement market and the variety of choices has improved. I am definitely sold on the glandulars, though, as the “plain” herbs simply do not work as well for me.
