I really hate to deduct one star on this seemingly fantastic company, but I just can’t find a good place for this in most people’s supplement program due to the bitter taste.
I have become a fan of the purity of nutrabio lately and have been highly recommending it across the board. I initially became a fan of BCAAs in 2010 and had used Xtend by Scivation intra workout since – there was clearly benefit in a delay to exhaustion. But after the proposition 65 warning label suddenly appeared on it, I started thinking of all the additives this unregulated industry uses. Given the recent trend in supplements providing full label disclosure I’m not alone. Here we have pure BCAAs.
TASTE: The nutrabio website tells you in bold letters that this tastes bad alone, and they themselves recommend against taking it alone due to the taste of pure aminos. I always mix my BCAAs in Gatorade or preworkout and hoped there would be no significant taste in these instances. In my intraworkout drink 1L of water which contains one scoop of gatorade (21g of carbs worth) and a scoop of BCAA’s, no big difference. However, in 15oz of water with my Assault, it corrupts the taste with a definite bitterness. The lesson here is that you need a lot of dilution. If you are going to drink it alone I would recommend their lemon lime which tastes great, and has replaced my Xtend.
MIXING: Some reviews talk about clumping, that’s true probably since there is nothing added to make it mix easier, but it will definitely dissolve in a standard 1L nalgene type bottle in the same amount of time it used to take me to dissolve Xtend. If you are using a shaker bottle (with a grate) there are no issues at all.

This literally tastes like vomit. Like that acid & bitter taste from the moment you put this in your mouth. There’s just no way I could drink this even mixed with something else. Don’t waste your money.

This is a good, clean product. Bad reviews on here will state that the taste is terrible and that the product doesn’t mix well. The amino acids in this product naturally have a bitter taste, especially leucine. Leucine is also hydrophobic, which is why there will be clumps. If you don’t think you will be able to stomach the taste, opt for a flavored BCAA product. My suggestion would be to squeeze some lemon juice into a tall glass of water, mix it and down it quick.

This product is just the BCAA, no filler, no flavor. The product, on the site page, warns that this product without flavor has a particular taste/smell that may be difficult for some people. For me, it makes me think of chlorinated water. However, I have no complaint, as the lack of fillers and flavor mean I have a much better idea of what I’m ingesting. Plus, when mixed in a smoothie, you don’t really notice it. Mixed with just water…it takes some getting used to, or being really thirsty.
As for product effectiveness, I cannot say with scientific certainty. However, for me, I feel the product absolutely helps with recovery. I also take a lesser dose than that recommended, as I feel the product still works at this lower dose and I feel better about it. No noted side effects, no issues with product consistency over many months.
Will purchase again. Happy to have stumbled upon this brand. I take only three supplements, but want to know, as best I can, what I am putting into my body.
Happy Hunting!

Too high in price for the size.

I’ve tried many different vegan and natural bcaa powders over the years and this one is by far my favorite. I love that it tastes like sweet tea, and not some artificial fruit flavor. It does have a slight stevia taste when you first start drinking it but after a few sips you don’t notice it. I have turned several people into this brand and everyone of them love it too. My rule of thumb about ingredients is if there are more than 5 I generally won’t buy the product, this product only has 4 other ingredients beyond the bcaas that anyone can read and recognize. Highly recommended if you are searching for a workout drink that doesn’t contain added sugars, food dyes, and artificial ingredients.

This is probably one of the best BCAA powders I’ve tried (Natural + artificial: Optimum, Xtend, Promix, etc). The tea flavor is such a nice departure from the typical fruity versions and actually tastes like lightly sweetened sweet tea. I know some people have commented on the stevia (read: bitter) taste, but that’s kind of the name of the game if you want to forgo nasty artificial sweeteners, and it’s by no means overwhelming or even off-putting. Can’t speak the effect of the drink at all (I’ve never really noticed any difference in body composition from drinking BCAAs), but for the taste and amount of servings, this is an incredible value. Even if you are just looking for a “healthier” version of a normal powdered drink mix, this is ideal. Will definitely buy again.

This stuff is awesome. Non-GMO no fillers nor additives. Essentially no un-needed crap. As advertised and mirrored in the other reviews the taste is BAAAAAD! Real bad! If you’re not using at minimum a blender shaker bottle or an actual blender then you are doing yourself a great disservice. It will not mix. Go ahead and stir it until you dislocate your shoulder. It will still sit atop the water in your glass in clumps mocking your efforts. It has the feel and consistency of cocaine. No density whatsoever. I have found that mixing it in a blender bottle with V8 helps significantly. Masks the taste but the after taste slowly turns bad. Just have something else handy to chase it down with. That said I’ve been using this for several days and workouts and it is far and away the best BCAA supplement I’ve ever used. Great results coupled with it’s purity make it my BCAA of choice going forward.
