I add 1 teaspoon of this to my dog’s kibble (under vet supervision) to help bulk up his stool as he deals with some gut issues. I really like how this is 100% psyllium husk powder without any non-medicinal ingredients like maltodextrin.

I bought Now Certified Organic Psyllium Husk Powder for its natural ingredients, no added sugar and each serving had 7 grams of fiber. Unfortunately, I had a hard time drinking this product with the recommended serving size of 1 tablespoon with 12oz of water. It tastes like cardboard and it gets really thick when it is mixed with the water. I also found the powder did not dissolve very well and was clumpy.

With the above said, I found it tastes much better with some additional, healthy ingredients. In a blender add 1 tablespoon psyllium husk powder with 12 oz of water, handful of fresh spinach, 1/2 of a mini cucumber, 1/4 of a pear (or apple) and a dash of orange juice. Blend until smooth. I think you will find getting your fiber will be much more enjoyable.

As somebody else commented, it doesn’t dissolve very well even with intense stirring. Clumps a lot. And the taste is pretty bad. The fiber that is orange flavored is much easier to drink.

Easy to mix; however, mix it quickly and consume. Adds bulk to my stool and get things moving alone. I have it prior to meals.

Psyllium in a fine powder form is one of the best sources of soluble fiber you can get. I’d really like to be eating 7 cups of salad and other vegetables a day to get the equivalent amount of fiber, but I’ve never been able to pull that off. So, Now is a reputable brand and this product is organic which is important for something you’ll likely be taking for a long time.

Here are three tips to address some of the issues people have when they take this brand and psyllium powder in general:
    1. Now recommends taking one tablespoon daily in 12oz. of water, but people complain the powder gels too quickly. This is not my experience. I use a 20oz. BlenderBottle shaker with a ball that agitates the liquid. You should have no problem if you shake vigorously and drink the whole 12oz right away.

    2. If you feel a tablespoon (3 teaspoons) is too much for you for whatever reason, you can do 1/2 tablespoon (1 1/2 teaspoons) twice a day with 8 to 12 oz of water.

    3. Drink a lot of water during the day when you take a powdered fiber supplement. I drink 8 glasses of water every day: three in the morning, three before dinner, and two after dinner.

Psyllium isn’t for everybody. You may have a certain type of SIBO that is aggravated by this, you may be allergic to it, it may make whatever symptoms you have worse, not better. So try one of the many other options like Benefiber, Citrucell, a gum fiber, Miralax, etc. or stop supplemental fiber all together. Hope this helps.

I have to put powdered psyllium in my dog food and this works well. I cook their food and sprinkle this on top when I serve it. I guess it’s a gourmet meal.😬

  8. SAM

I mix this every day with collagen and maca root powder and it is easy to swallow together as a mixture with water. The taste is fine, not bad. And it seems to work for the tummy issues it was needed for.

I used to use Metamucil as a daily fiber supplement because fiber is a necessary and healthy part of the diet. But the overly sweet, cloying orange flavor was just terrible. And with the finely ground psyllium, I couldn’t tell how much of the product was fiber and how much was just sugar.

This stuff is more coarsely milled, and has no added flavoring, or anything else. Just psyllium.

Compared to Metamucil, it’s also a much more reasonably priced option.

This product adds considerable soluble fiber to the diet, with all it’s attendant health benefits – from lowering cholesterol to improving movement through and out of the digestive tract.

They also make a more finely ground product, which I tried, but like this one much, much more.

  10. Efurd

This product works well. I have taken psyllium husk daily for 20+ years. I like this one because it contains no added sugar or sweeteners. It has an “earthy” taste. I simply use a small whisk to mix it into water.
