I began using this extract several years ago after carefully weighing my options, It seemed the best choice and I like that it has no or extremely little caffeine. Most importantly for me is that if I take three capsules a day–at least two–it is helping to boost my blood levels. I was diagnosed in 2010 with T-Cell LGL leukemia. At that time, it was determined that my blood levels and other symptoms were not yet bad enough to treat but my hematologist fully expected I would soon require treatment. I did a lot of online research and read about a clinical trial being done by the Mayo Clinic for patients with CLL leukemia using green tea extract, and that many of the patients were responding well. I didn’t know how to mimic that extract so drank copious quantities of carefully brewed green tea. This helped with my blood levels to the point where the hematologist was very surprised that not only did I not decline, but I even improved. But brewing and drinking that much tea got to me after five years and I switched to this extract. It has done very well for me overall if taken regularly, but I must take it with food as it can upset my stomach. My system can only handle so much. That is the one drawback. There are days I can’t handle it at all and have to give my gut a rest but I also suffer from IBS, so this is potent stuff for me. If I stop taking it for too many days, the blood levels will dip. I never take more than three a day within an hour of a meal.

Studies have found that EGCG – which is the component of green tea that is largely responsible for all the amazing anti-cancer, anti-aging, anti-Alzheimer’s benefits – is very poorly absorbed. In fact, if you take it with a protein-containing food (especially one that contains the amino acid proline, which is really high in dairy), it pretty much negates all its benefits as it keeps your body from absorbing it.
I’m a nutrition student and am in the middle of writing a report/scouring the journals for information on EGCG. Current research shows that it is best taken first thing in the morning, after fasting all night, with 1000 mg of high quality fish oil from salmon, 200 mg of ascorbic acid (vitamin c) and AWAY from protein.
I love this product because it’s incredibly cheap, has a high amount of EGCG and some vitamin C, though I also take it with citrus bioflavanoids for some extra C. Sometimes I’ll take it at the same time I’m eating an orange or a little fat, but always away from protein.
If it makes you nauseous, start with one pill and some fruit. Rarely do I take more than one at a time. Side note: it’s likely the small amount of caffeine that’s responsible for the nausea. If you tolerate caffeine/black coffee or tea well, you’re unlikely to have issues with this.

At 52, I spent my first year out of college living in Japan. I learned to appreciate good green tea and the health benefits that it would provide. Ever since then I have used a green tea extract and particularly, this brand and this version for 10 years. I’ll be cautious to overly impart every benefit I’m about to state to the green tea but I am very clear on a few. Taking a multivitamin regimen daily for several decades, the single time I swapped out this brand for a different one, was when gray hair began, only a few sprouts mind you but I am multiple years older than my brother, and have 2% Gray hair versus 100% on him. Additionally as a free radical scavenger, at 52 I would say I’m in the best shape of my life with a low body fat index and commonly commented as looking younger for my age. Of course this is a combination of multiple lifestyle components and genetics, and not just taking a magic pill, but having used this as long as I have, it is a daily go-to for life.
