Not all brands, & type of Calcium is alike… I have a paper that might help in choosing your calcium but heres my babbeling thoughts…..I’m well over 65 & was told I’ve Osteoporosis,
had Osteoarthritis for years after an intense athletic youth. So I’ve been taking supplements most my life & haven’t broken a bone unless you count my nose, in the ring. I’ve tipped over on my motorcycle which weighs 698lbs. So I laughed when the MRI saw bone loss…
Granted its hard to absorbe Calcium & many really are tough on your tummy… In the 1970’s my grandmother wolffed down Calcium derived from oyster shell, bone meal, dolomite, or coral… it always puzzled me to how oyster shell had anything that could benifit a human body in any way… aside from the pearl. Looks nice as a necklace not chrewing it up & hopes it goes to you bone. Really? So with that…. nonsense
My advice…Mom’s, start your daughter
w/ calcium/magnesium & vit D, right after her 1st menses… BECAUSE loosing bone density in your later years…Sucks!! I’m not saying I’m not in pain but don’t fool yourself that that white water helps
….Milk doesn’t work! If cow calfs stop sucking the tit…. why are humans drinking it? You can’t even imagine how powerful the Milk Lobby is $$$$ It actually works in the reverse… plus a calf has 5 stomachs as their mom… we have only one stomach & a very delicate gut. The Bain of Our Existence!
So, I’ve chosen NOW’s Calcium Citrate & found it was less irritating to the stomach, even though Cal Citrate has 21% calcium…& according to their lable (which has the other vits & minerals I mentioned for absorption w/ a nice Copper, Zinc & Manganese with all 3 derived from their Amino Acid Chelate…which is nice)
So…One tab =450 MG on the lable is calculated by NOW, itself, as to 35% Calcium & 3 spaced out tabs a day…. giving you 115%…(?)
☆Better idea: Check out this in choosing and taking calcium supplements as found in the Harvard Special Health Report Osteoporosis: A guide to prevention and treatment:
Good Luck & may you walk tall and proud until you can’t.

Nothing is too easy to swallow but these weren’t bad for that. I can’t give many things 5 for swallowing because of me. Seems okay on my stomach unless I’m too stressed. I believe they work as a calcium supplement so I’m happy. I seem to be able to eat less dairy, which is great for calcium but bad for my stomach.

Since I don’t get much Calcium in my diet from foods such as cow’s milk or cheese and only enjoy yogurt occasionally, I was in search of a way to get at least 1,000mg of daily Calcium, especially since I have varying points of osteoarthritis due to bone injuries.
I like that these are vegetarian capsules that are easier to swallow than caplets of the same size. The only part that I am still getting used to are the divided doses since Calcium Citrate is best absorbed by taking each of the three pills with a meal/snack throughout the day.
There’s a powder form of Calcium that this brand makes and recommends mixing into orange juice which I do not regularly drink. I’m also generally hesitant about any additives that may change the texture of beverages I consume.

I have been using this product for years and it’s great. I’m a vegetarian and this is a vegan friendly product, as many Now Foods products are. It’s extremely digestible with no discomfort, side efffects or aftertaste. I presently use several Now Foods products because they use vegetable source capsules, not gelatin which is animal based.. This is calcium citrate which is supposed to be more absorbable and bio-available. It also has a good dose of magnesium. I find that taking two before bedtime helps promote a deep sleep. I also take 10mg of melatonin and a cup of chamomile tea.
And being a vegetarian senior citizen, i want to make sure I get enough calcium. I take two a day, which is 300 mg. I get the rest from green vegetables. I don’t want to take too much calcium for fear of kidney stones or arterial buildup.

The Now Calcium Citrate seems to be a good product from a reliable company. The price is reasonable. I take Calcium at the advice of a physician since I am almost 70 and the bones need a little extra help at this point. I also have had to take Prednisone and some chemo type drugs in the last 10 years and this is hard on the calcium (Bones) in the body. For this reason, I take the extra Calcium and will recommend it to others in my position.

Needed a source of calcium citrate that was easy to take. This is the first one I’ve found. It’s great. I’m very happy with it and so is my doctor.
