I bought this supplement for my 96 year old mother because she got a C-Diff infection from a hospital stay. This infection can cause damage to the intestinal tract, and this supplement supposedly helps to support a healthy digestive tract. Her doctor, who is familiar with the different supplements, didn’t think that this benefit had been proven, but I gave it to her in addition to others that were supposed to be beneficial for this purpose. At this point in time, my mother’s digestive processes seem to be working fine, and, hopefully, there was little or no damage done by the infection. Once the bottle is used up, I probably won’t buy it again as I don’t believe in over supplementation. Whether or not this specific supplement helped her, I can’t truthfully say, but we got her through another crisis, and this supplement may have helped.

Forgive me in advance, as this is going to be a very long review. I actually bought this product more than 2 years ago, but I bought it for a different reason than what I’m using it for now. You see, I originally bought this b/c I have Crohn’s disease. I had read that it helps ‘coat’ the colon to protect it from further damage (i.e., polyps, ulcers, abdominal pain, etc.) I used it diligently for a few weeks, and then, quite honestly, got lax on taking it. It’s a pretty big pill, and with my disease I take a great amount of pills…and I just got tired of taking a buffet’s worth of pills! My thought was I’d take it (after I had a breather from all the pills) and I bagged it up along with other medication that I didn’t ‘need’ anymore and stuck it away in my bath pantry.
Since that time, I developed acid reflux. My GI prescribed me Omeprozole (that I have now been on for 1 1/2 years). Now that I think about it, it wasn’t too long after I stopped the L-Glut that I was having problems with acid reflux. Anyway, I’ve spent the last 72 hours researching natural remedies I could use in place of the Omeprazole b/c I read the dangers of it, and quite frankly, it never really worked. It didn’t matter whether I was on 40 mg or 20 mg of that stuff. In fact, 72 hours ago, after having 2 attacks with the reflux (gagging, throwing up ,etc) I took another 20 mg Omeprozole. Guess what? After awhile, I got sick again!!! So, I went on the hunt….
I read everything about licorice, L-Glut, marshmallow, massit gum (or whatever) and several other things, but I knew I had taken L-Glut just fine in the past, so I took it out of its ‘cave’ and I took one before I ate. I was reluctant to eat, so I also took a 20 mg of Omeprozole (I haven’t weened off those yet) just to be certain. Waited a little while. Then I ate. Believe me when I tell you all, I had the biggest meal tonight that I have had in the better part of almost 2 years tonight (and that includes holidays).
After I enjoyed my luscious meal, I took one more L-Glut (as someone suggested), and a few hours later…..I’m feeling no effect of the food or the meds! I feel normal!
Now, to be clear, I JUST used the L-Glut again last night, but I’m going to try again tonight and every night for quite some time before I get the courage to lay down the Omeprozole for good. I will be sure to re-review (is that a word?) when I get to that point, but I’m sure I will order more of this beforehand. I just feel is sooooo important for others to read, so I posted a review now. I gave it 5 stars b/c I feel great! It’s the first time I’ve felt normal in a very very long time. When I re-review in a few weeks, I will give the appropriate rating at that time.
If this continues to work for me for the reflux, I will be more motivated to continue it for it’s other benefits as time goes on. We shall see. I’ll be in touch. God Bless. Jen

Honestly it’s hard to know if this is doing anything or not, but I feel like it is. It’s really hard to quantify things like “am I digesting better?” or “is my memory better?” or “am I less depressed?”. But after taking one of these per day for the past 30 days, I do feel like the answer to all of these is “yes”. I do seem to have better gut health (combined with taking acacia fiber), and my memory does seem better (though I’m eating better), and my emotional health seems pretty balanced despite a lot of stressful things happening at once. So while it’s hard to quantify whether or not the L-Glutamine is the cause for a slightly improved overall health, it at least doesn’t seem to have a negative effect! And I do believe it is helping to some degree, especially in terms of gut health. Maybe I should be taking more of a daily dose, but I feel this is having a good impact without being potentially dangerous, so I plan to keep it up!
Edit: 5 months since my initial review, I’m upgrading my ranking from 4 to 5 stars. I now notice definite benefits when taking this supplement. Now that I’ve begun working out regularly, I feel it really helps with muscle growth and recovery time outside of just taking protein shakes. In general, I can feel the difference on days I take this versus days I don’t.
Edit 2: It is now about 16 months since my initial review, and I can confirm that my health is different on weeks where I remember to take this versus weeks when I don’t. My mental clarity, muscle growth, and digestive health all improve when I take one of these per day for a few days straight. I’m not always perfect with recording data, but after this much time I have developed a pretty good correlation with this improving my health. One caveat is that if I manage to remember to take this, I also probably remembered to take vitamins, fish oil, and maybe some fiber supplements during that same week. So I still cannot 100% prove that this alone is causing my health, but I do believe it’s a critical part of it.
