I originally bought these to replace a more expensive powdered enzyme product that I have to mix in with my dog’s food. I didn’t realize until I opened the bottle that these chewable tablets have peppermint oil in them, so i did not end up giving them to my dog as I was afraid the peppermint mixed into her food might cause her to not eat. So these tablets sat untouched in the cabinet for 9 months.
A few days ago I decided I would start taking these myself, as I have my own digestive issues. Upon opening the bottle for the first time in months (second time ever opening it), the smell was not what I’d remembered. The mint smell was much fainter and the overall smell was just gross. Did they go bad while sitting? Or did I just not remember correctly, maybe because the first time around I was thinking of them for my dog and not for me? I checked the expiration date and they were still good for a year, so I decided to try them despite the smell.
For the past few days I have taken two tablets after every meal just as it says on the bottle. The first time I chewed them up pretty well. It was disgusting. Had to immediately go brush my teeth to get all of the crushed pill out of my teeth. Every time since then I just barely crunch them into small enough pieces that I can swallow easily. And I try to hold my breath until they’re washed all the way down.
I’ve seen some reviews mention that the bad taste is due to the chlorophyll in these tablets. I have taken liquid chlorophyll before. Liquid chlorophyll smells like a plant nursery, and tastes like water that’s been filtered through a bag of potting soil. So basically like dirt. These papaya enzyme tablets do not make me think of dirt. To me they smell like bad breath — think tonsil stones. And they taste just like they smell. And I’m not exaggerating out being dramatic, that is literally the only thing that comes to mind when I smell or taste these tablets.
It may be too early to tell whether these are helping my digestion, but I’m leaving a couple stars just for their potential, and taking off a few for the terrible taste, and the laughable suggestion on the bottle to use these “as a mint breath freshener” by letting them dissolve in your mouth. Yuck!

I was really turned off at first by the taste of chlorophyll. Never had it before, and it definitely takes getting used to.
Other than that, works well.
I have been using another brand religiously for years and they stopped making it
So I compared labels and gave this a try. Works just as well of not better.

I purchased this because I was almost out of my other ones. Something is DEFINITELY wrong with these. After opening the bottle, I chewed a few tonight & it burned my throat really bad. I have NEVER had this happen before. I was going g to see if I could return them. It is obvious that something is NOT right. And evidently for some reason it is not returnable. I am NOT happy with that at all! I would NOT recommend this brand. I WAS AFRAID TO TRY ANOTHER ONE. It has been a good hour since chewed a few of the papaya enzymes tabs I have drank water to TRY to clear my throat & it is still VERY irritated & sour. I guess I’m going to have to toss them out. THAT WAS A WASTE ON MONEY? Don’t waste yours like I did.
