Got these to help ween me off of famotidine – for stomach acid/heartburn issues. I have a hiatal hernia, and have been battling acid issues for decades! DGL – licorice without the glycyrrhizin components that could increase your heart rate, among other things – seems to help me in my battle against heartburn. Most DGL products taste…AWFUL! Unless you love black licorice, you’ll probably dislike them. The german chocolate flavor of these has just 1 gram of sugar (from fructose) and tastes wonderful! Chew one before a meal – 10 to 60 minutes prior – and you get a ‘coating’ effect on your stomach, slightly reducing acid issues. The claim is that the licorice will speed-up the replacement of your stomach lining. I’m not sure if that claim works or not, but I can tell you that when I take these before meals, I need less famotidine, or none at all! That’s a big score for me. This is NOT an antacid. It is NOT a proton-pump-inhibitor (PPI), rather it’s a supplement that is supposed to help in the growth of new stomach lining – something that happens every couple of days for most folks. Those with chronic heartburn tend to have all sorts of problems, and their stomach linings get damaged easily. For me, this product helps. If it keeps me away from long-term issues related to acid-reducers/PPis, then great! If it tastes pretty good, even better! Give it a try! My local health food store doesn’t always have these in stock, so I began ordering through Amazon. YAY! Cheaper, and I don’t have to drive to the store.

I like the DGL Ultra! It really works for helping with Gerd/reflux. People who are complaining about the reformulation have no clue what they are talking about. Yes, the new formulation shows the DG Licorice at a lower mg. This is because it is a now a concentrated formula and doesn’t require as much as the older version of DGL. It is clinically proven to be just as potent as the old version. People just do not want to get this through their heads. People get their minds made up so quickly – even when what they think is incorrect many times. This works as well the old formula in clinical trials.
It does have a bit of a different taste. Maybe not quite as tasty but I went into this new formula with an open mind. I gave it a chance. Tried the entire bottle. Nah, I’m not as keen on the ‘new’ flavor but in all honesty – IT WORKS as well as the old formula. I have had terrible reflux for years. I used to take this after my H2 blocker med. I started having a sensitivity to the H2 blocker after years of use. Made up my mind I was going to quit the acid blockers. Fact of the matter is as we get older we need MORE hydrochloric acid to break down food for digestion, not less! People have much more stomach acid in their 20’s than in their 40’s and older. If acid was the problem then people in their teens and 20’s would have tons of heartburn and indigestion. I had NONE at that age. Unless I got stupid with eating things and drinking too much at night before bed.
Give this a chance as I know both personally and professionally that it works. I recommend it to my clients, friends and family. People who have never tried the old formula don’t seem to mind this new formulation as they have nothing to compare it to. Most of my clients and friends tell me after using it for a while “Hey, this DGL stuff really works!” to which I smile and think to myself: “I know grasshopper. I know.”

I ordered two bottles. I like the product very much, but my second bottle had a broken seal. This item is not eligible for return.

I waited quite a while to finally get this product because it was not available. I have used it for years and it has been so helpful. This new bottle is packaged differently. There seem to be a lot of variables within these DGL product. This particular one I “reordered” and then waited for….. and it has a purple wrapper which is green label as seen on Amazon here…. I don’t care about label, but for purpose of identifying the product.
My reorder tastes absolutely terrible!!! I have taken it for a day or two but I don’t notice any digestive aid as I did with the other. Very disappointed and ripped off too…. no returns!

I’m not sure if it is Natures Way BRAND, that has screwed up the formerly great product , or if sellers have different versions of the DGL???
I wish I had a better understanding of it all but what I do understand and can clearly speak to is the one that I ended up getting is something I would never order EVER again!

It relieves occasional heartburn for me. A friend with more severe heartburn said it did little and tasted terrible. I like the taste, but I also like dark chocolate and licorice.

DGL Ultra German Chocolate was recommended to me by a friend …. her acupuncturist suggested she try it to get off her acid reflux meds (she had been taking for many years – like me!). So, I chew one of these tasty tablets each morning when I get up – 20 minutes before eating or drinking. I am happy to say I am no longer taking meds for reflux and I have barely had any problems with my hiatal hernia since I’ve been taking this product. I showed it to my family doctor and he thinks it’s great! I will use and recommend this product to everyone! Great Stuff!

After reading all of the horrible reports and research about my acid reflux prescription I attempted to stop using it and tried all of the home remedies including Brioschi which I really had high hopes for, but it did nothing. Then I finally came across DGL chocolate, and figured why not give it a try. Not only does it taste awesome with no strong licorice flavor, but it actually works! My GERD was horrible without meds, Tums and Alka Seltzer didn’t even work, but this safe product does! Such a relief in more than one way!
