I was surprised when the doctor told me that the pain I was having in my back/side was most likely a gall bladder problem (I thought I had a kidney stone). I was more surprised that the MRI he wanted me to have was over $5000. (Don’t ask me why an ultrasound wasn’t good enough, I have the same question). I refused the MRI but realized he was probably right. I started paying attention to the pain I’d been having for several years and decided I’d try to see what I could do on my own before I had to have it removed. I started taking 6 capsules of beet root powder per day (3 in the morning, 3 before bed) and very quickly I noticed the pain felt better. I could tell when I’d forgotten to take it because I’d have a dull ache in my side. Every couple weeks I’d get an intense pain in my side and then the next day I’d feel great. I think I’d passed a stone.
About 6 weeks in, I also started taking Stone Free (http://www.amazon.com/Planetary-Herbals-Stone-Tablets-tablets/dp/B001G7QEUQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368800900&sr=8-1&keywords=stone+free) Which for the record tastes really awful. I’ve taken it about a month now, but sporadically because I hate the taste. Some days I forget.
A few days ago I had a pretty big pain in my side. In fact, I was at my son’s graduation and he was three min from the crossing the stage. I thought that it was “it” that I was having a full on attack. I just wanted him to get his diploma before I had to go to the emergency room. But within 15 minutes I felt lots better, just achy. Since then, I’ve barely had any pain at all! I think I might have passed the mother of all gallstones. (Or at least I hope so). I will continue to take both the beet root powder and the stone free. I have High BP also so hoping that will help in that regards also. I have a home BP cuff and my readings have been very good.
ETA:
I’ve been taking Beet Root Powder and Stone free for almost 2 years now and still feel pretty good. I can miss a few days before I start to ache again although the aches are very minor when I stop.

I absolutely love these! They aren’t too big so I don’t have difficulty swallowing them and the little bit of taste that I can detect is almost sweet. They energize me and keep my blood pumping good! This brand is always top notch!

I’ve been a fan of this supplement for a while. What stands out the most is the absence of any aftertaste. The capsules are easy to swallow, making it a part of my daily routine is a breeze. Also, the large quantity offered is just icing on the cake. A definite recommend for anyone looking for a quality beet root supplement!

I have been trying methodically to lower my blood pressure for the past 6 months or so using various supplements.
Actually I have tried a dozen or more supplements including the ones listed in by Robert Kowalaski in his book. I take my own blood pressure reading at the same time daily and add notes to a wonderful and fun-to-use blood pressure iPhone app called Codulis. It is great for graphing results and gives stats including AVERAGES of BP readings over days, weeks, months, etc. This is very important since blood pressure can vary over time. I find a lot of people give recommendations based on a few readings which can be VERY misleading and inaccurate. For the past 2 or 3 months I have watched my average blood pressure reading and mapped BP graph gradually and consistently slope downward. My blood pressure average at the beginning 5 months ago was a high systolic average of 157 with diastolic of around 83 – with spikes of 170 systolic or more at times. My average systolic readings gradually started to go down monthly to 152, 145 and now I have average systolic readings for the past month of 138/72. For my routine, I take two of the olive leaf capsules by Life extension, 2 Natures way beet root capsules 3x a day and I also take one cup of low sodium V8 juice with a VERY small amount of Now Potassium chloride (about 1/4 tsp). I also try to practice deep breathing and walk a mile or more per day. Although I am adding other supplements and making some life style changes, I have concluded that the olive extract is a large factor in lowering my BP especially in conjunction with the beet root capsules. I have yet to have any side effects from this regimen other than some loose stools on occasion. By the way, olive oil has recently been isolated in the Mediterranean diet as THE ingredient responsible for the lower risk of strokes and CVD in those countries. The primary mechanism is believed to be the blood pressure lowering ability of the oleuropein in the olive oil (and olive leaf extract). I have increased my olive oil consumption but the olive leaf extract is easier to take on a consistent basic. The beet root capsules have an added benefit of not only lowering blood pressure but helping men with ED!

I was using another brand name for 30 days to see if it would help with the slight skin discoloration (from insufficient blood flow) on my lower legs–it didn’t. However, I thought that it might be helping me from becoming so easily “winded”. So, I decided to give these a try to see if they would help me with that issue. Apparently, these help athletes with their breathing, giving them more stamina. I will find out. Good value.
