I waited 9 months to review this product. I first bought it for the promise of boosting my immune system. Some background of me: I began living with very young children 3 years ago and ended up getting sick once a month. It was awful having to spend most of my year ill. I waited, thinking that my body just needed time to get used to it but it never did. I looked into astragalus root and how it has actual benefits as found through a scientific study. It wasn’t all mumbo jumbo promising the earth and delivering nothing so I decided to buy this from Amazon last summer. Originally, I was going to give it 1 star because nothing seemed to change; I still got sick as often as I always did. I almost didn’t want to buy another bottle but I convinced myself to keep give it more time, and FINALLY after 4 months of taking it, I stopped getting colds. Everyone else in my family has gone through various colds and flus but the most I’ve caught from them in several months was a stomach virus.
I take the 6 recommended capsules a day, 2 with each meal. The capsules are medium sized, clear, and made of cellulose (plant fibers). The astragalus root itself is a light brown powder. It’s very lightweight so have lots of water on hand to wash it down because they can get stuck in your throat otherwise.I would highly recommend this to anyone else who has a weaker immune system. Stick with it because it takes a while to work and if it still doesn’t work for you, at least you didn’t lose out on a whole lot of money. I will definitely continue to subscribe to this product for as long as they produce it.

My husband is on chemotherapy, and it drops his blood counts significantly, especially his neutrophils, WBCs, and lymphocytes. I found astragalus recommended by other cancer patients, and I checked for interactions with any other supplements or medications he’s on and didn’t find anything so figured it was worth a shot. He took this as directed for less than a week, and his numbers improved significantly. I couldn’t believe it worked! Here are his improved numbers from one week to the next (lymphocytes & RBCs stayed about the same):
WBC went from 2.2 to 4.4
Platelets went from 191 to 208
Abs Neutrophils went from 1014 to 2913
Abs Monocytes went from 233 to 537

Astragalus – called huang qu in traditional Chinese Medicine, has been used in many other TCM formulas that serve as primary defense mechanisms for the body. Besides using the herb in supplements, it’s often used in cooking because it’s nourishing and strengthening – esp. when people are sick. In TCM it tonifies the spleen – when illness causes fatigue.
Astragalus is a foundational herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The root is an amazing supplement – which our entire family swears by especially during cold and flu season, but during any time of physical or emotional stress. Astragalus supports deep immune function and liver function, it also helps the body adapt to stress. Somewhere I read that if you take Astragalus during a virus, you won’t get that same virus ever again during your lifetime. I don’t know if that’s true, but we take it when we begin to feel sick, and we avoid most of the colds and flus that go around w/o getting flu shots. Our college age kids always take a bottle back to college with them, and call home for more when they run out!
It can be purchased as a capsule with dried powder from the root, dried root powder, or the roots can be purchased and you can make a decoction from boiling the root in water – it’s made strong by boiling for an extended length of time.
This is one of the herbs that will always be in our cabinet, and that of all of our kids!

This is strictly anecdotal so please understand that I am not advocating a particular treatment, just sharing my own experience. I have a 23 year old shepherd/husky/pit mix, yes, that is twenty-three human years of age (there isn’t even a place on the chart that gives dog years for her). She developed an awful tumor which was presumed to be cancer – it was hard as a rock and pulled the surrounding skin tight. At her age and with a diagnosis of laryngeal paralysis which affects her airway, there wasn’t a vet who would touch her for surgery. In desperation I started looking for alternative therapies. I started my furbaby on Astragalus and ginseng bid (one tablet each twice daily) with high potency full spectrum cbd oil from Lazarus Naturals – about 1/4 dropper twice a day or more if I thought about it. My old girl weighs 54 lbs. I didn’t have a formula for how much to use, it just “felt right”. All of this was done with my vet’s full knowledge and approval. By the end of week 3, I was starting to notice that the tumor was getting a little smaller and the skin was not as tight. Now, as I am ordering more bottles, the tumor is less than half its original size, the skin is very loose, almost normal and my old girl seems to be feeling better – she is once again snipping at the puppy. Our vet termed her a ‘remarkable girl’ and her blood work looks great. Hope this helps!

I love astragalus! This seems to be great quality. I will update once I’ve taken them for a while. The size is okay for me, although my mother does not enjoy pill-taking she seems to do ok with these so they are easy to swallow for her. I tell her to make sure they are wet enough from what ever liquid she is using and then it should glide down without any problems. I will update
