I’m always surprised when parents don’t read the labels on products. Another reviewer thinks this product shouldn’t be available because it can cause an infant to choke on his mucus. Clearly, this parent can’t read because it specifically says DO NOT USE for children under 4 years old. I think Amazon should remove her review because its misleading. When used correctly, this product works just as described. Quickly (15-30 minutes), and lasts for quite a while (4-5 hours). This is only a suppressant and expectorant, so no sedation. I added Benadryl to dry up the post-nasal drip (the cause of the cough), and to sedate. But for overnights, I discovered Delsym for children as the perfect, long lasting cough suppressant for kids as young as 4. Read your labels, parents. It’s not that hard!

This product contains both a cough suppressant and an expectorant (to loosen phlegm). However, these should NOT be taken together because if phlegm is loosened but the suppressant keeps the baby from coughing up the loosened phlegm, it can result in pneumonia. I cannot believe this product is even available.

We have used this for years! This is the best cough medicine I have ever used! I have used this since my child was old enough, and even though we have outgrown the age suggested on the box, we still use it, and it still works! It works so well, that I even started using it because the adult Mucinex leaves me feeling groggy the next morning. This soothes cough all night long in almost all instances, unless one is really, really sick and has constant drainage. In the case, we prop up on two or three pillows, and use this, and most nights are able to sleep well. This will continue to be a go-to medicine for us even though everyone has outgrown the suggested age limit. We also love that there is no drowsy side affects the next day! It also tastes MUCH better than any of the adult cough syrups we have tried! Would rate it a 10 if that many stars were available.

I am very sensitive to medications, so I tried this children’s version on an allergy-related cough. It worked great with no noticeable side effects. I would suggest that an adult who is sensitive to drugs might benefit from trying this children’s version.
