I love this stuff. Recently introduced to Kbeauty, and this is one of the “holy grail” products I have read about on the kbeauty reddit thread, and elsewhere. Japanese product, not Korean, made by a sake company very interesting story, and product, one of the Japanese drug store cult favorites among Asian beauty enthusiasts.
I recently ordered the white, or “regular” version also, which has alcohol in it, (the pink does not) and is slightly less sticky when applied, for which reason I have switched from the pink to the white as my body lotion, although I am still using the pink for my face toner before the rest of my routine.
The pink version is called “high moist” , the white is the original one, I believe, and it made my face break out a little bit when I first tried it, something other users have reported also. Apparently if you stick with it, some people adjust after their skin “purges”, other people continue to have issues with the white version but not the pink, and of course for a few unlucky users, neither work out at all, which is a shame since this product is awesome and affordable.
I have decanted both into small spray bottles for easier access, and it has completely replaced my body lotion, even though I live in a hot and dry climate. The pink one is definitely more moisturizing, and can even feel a little sticky, I use it when really dry skin, otherwise, white version is my go-to.
I love the scent and consistency; for me it smells like bubble gum, and even tastes a little sweet, the scent evaporates immediately, and the watery solution quickly sinks into the skin. Apparently is the hylauranic acid and ceramides which provide the magical moisturizing properties.
I really cant say enough about this product, the bottle is huge, great price, I love everything about it except for the crazy pump, but minor detail.

Firstly, I only use this product on my body. I’ve decanted it into a continuous spray bottle as I don’t like the pump on the bottle that it comes in (hence removing one star). I’ve been using this on my body for about 2 weeks now and have seen some fading of PIH and scarring on my legs as a result. I use it after a shower for full effect, and I make sure to exfoliate well in the shower first. I’ve noticed if I don’t exfoliate my arms I sometimes get small, non inflammatory bumps on them from this product. I’ve also noticed that my knees and elbows are smoother, and my skin is softer and brighter overall. Product does not take too long to absorb and the amount of moisture is just right for summer. At this price, for this amount of product, I will definitely repurchase. New body product HG!

After having used this for about a year now, I think it’s time to share my thoughts.
First off, the fact that it’s lasted a year (and I still have about a third of the bottle left) speaks pretty well of it’s longevity. For the price, it’s definitely worth it. I use about 1-2 pumps morning and night.
It’s a light moisturizer, so I use it as a base or when I need something quick when getting ready. If I am feeling just slightly dry, this works perfect, however if I’m dealing with more intense dry skin, I need to opt for a cream. Usually, I’ll layer this with another product. It is easy on the skin, and personally I like the slight alcoholic sake scent. It dissipates fairly quickly too.
It can be a little sticky if you use too much, so I say 2 pumps at most. I usually rub it across my face, neck, and upper chest when I use 2 pumps, then just pat in the remainder on my hands. After drying, my face feels plump and moisturized.
Overall, it is a very decent standby moisturizer with an extremely generous quantity that lasts a verrrry long time. If you’re on the fence, I say it’s worth a try. Especially if you just need light to medium moisture.
My skin is dry in spots, slightly oily by the end of the day, for reference. I have fairly sensitive skin with only mild acne. This doesn’t get rid of acne in my experience, but it doesn’t make it worse either, which I think is pretty great. I typically use BHA products to actually get rid of the acne, so this does a good job of being minimal and just doing moisture only.

I use this as a first toning essence in my skincare routine and find that it helps my subsequent products/layers absorb into my skin a little better. I first read about this on the Asian Beauty subreddit. Other users seemed to have great success with this, and I was looking to add an FTE with a little moisture kick to my routine. This totally fits the bill.
The bottle is quite large and tinted pink (the product itself is a hazy/milky almost clear). The pump is a little too effective – it squirts out too much product, so I ended up decanting this into a smaller bottle (I cleaned out an old CosRx bottle and that worked perfectly!). For travel, I decanted into a tiny spray bottle and it mists very nicely on my face and allows me to really control the amount of product I’m getting.
The consistency is quite watery, and I just add a little to my clean hands before slathering all over my face and neck. I suppose you could pump the product onto a cotton ball or pad, but I feel like you’d be losing a lot of product that way.
Because this is a ferment, there is a scent to this product. I wouldn’t call it strong, but it’s pronounced. It smells of over-ripe bananas. To me, the smell is pleasant, but I can see how some might find it off-putting.
Edit: Aug 2018 – I am still very much in love with this product. And realized it makes a SUBSTANTIAL difference in my moisture game.
A story: I’d been using this for a few months with great success, but I’d been happy with my routine before adding this, so I figured I’d be OK without it on a 5-night vacation. Nope! Without it, I found that my other products did not absorb nearly as well, my skin wasn’t as plump and dewy, and it just felt kind of blah. Lesson learned. This is truly a holy grail and I won’t want to be without it.
Edit April 2019: I still use this product twice daily (morning and evening routines). I’ve also started using it for DIY sheet masks. As we all know, sheet masking is THE GREATEST, and the results can be fantastic. To get my sheet mask fix without breaking the bank, I started buying the little compressed, dry sheet masks here on Amazon, and creating little single-use “potions” to saturate them in. The Kikumasamune is PERFECT for this as a main ingredient.
I’ll start with soaking the dry sheet mask in the Kiku. After it saturates and expands, I’ll add my other ingredients. But the Kiku is so lovely and watery, that it’s crucial to get the mask started.

I am a black woman who has been using this product for years. It definitely smells like sake or even soapy for people who are not used to it, but it eventually goes away after the product soaks in. this is not like a traditional lotion. It is liquid, but it makes hydration after a shower, very quick and efficient. my skin is glowing and even toned. I recommend this product, but make sure you moisturize with a regular lotion every other day

El producto es realmente una esencia, se aplica después del tónico y antes del serum, por eso su consistencia líquida y ligera. Aporta un buen nivel de humedad, puede usarse antes del ácido hialurónico y juntos funcionan excelente. También puede usarse al final de la rutina de skincare y deja un acabado glowy muy padre. Por el precio es una muy buena opción.
