- EXPECTORANT: Major’s Guaifenesin is an immediate release expectorant that helps loosen phlegm (mucus) and thin bronchial secretions to rid the bronchial passageways of bothersome mucus and make coughs more productive.
- ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Each tablet contains guaifenesin 200 mg for use as an expectorant. Inactive ingredients: FD&C red #40 aluminum lake, magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, silicon dioxide, sodium starch glycolate, stearic acid.
- HOW TO USE: Do not exceed 6 doses in 24 hours. Take with a full glass of water. Adults and children 12 years and over: 1 to 2 tablets every 4 hours. Children 6 to under 12 years: 1/2 to 1 tablet every 4 hours. Children under 6 years: ask a doctor.

So bummed to get this medication to see that it has Red Dye 40 in it. Why is it necessary? Parents be aware if you are purchasing for your little ones.

I needed guifenissen for my dog, hard to find 100 mg dose vet prescribed. These are scored & split in half easily. Cheaper than buying from the vet & saved me a trip there.

No frills medicine. You can easily break the tablets into halves or quarters by hand for relatively precise dosing, and they dissolve completely in water if you need to administer in a liquid form (just add plenty of water enhancer or something because guaifenesin tastes nasty bitter). Each dose only lasts four hours, but that’s standard for immediate-release guaifenesin in any form, and extended-release is not recommended for children because it hasn’t been studied enough.
