Lutein and zeaxanthin are pigments found in the central retina (the macula) and it has been speculated that a dietary supplement might help prevent development or progression of macular degeneration. They are also included in the AREDS2 formula for individuals diagnosed with macular degeneration, but at a lower dosage than found in this capsule. I take a lutein/zeaxanthin supplement because my eyesight is important to me, it’s not overly expensive, and I’ve not found it to be harmful. These are ¾ inch long orange capsules that come in a dark colored glass bottle. (Yes, it arrived in a glass bottle, not a plastic one.) The expiration date, printed on the label, is about 16 months from the date I received it. Lutein/zeaxanthin supplements do tend to vary in dosage. This product has 20mg of lutein and 4mg of zeaxanthin. I’m not aware of any formally recommended daily dose for either lutein or zeaxanthin, so I can’t quibble about dosage, but this is in line with many other supplements of this type. This is made in the USA, which I view as a plus.

This is a quality Lutein supplement by Nutrigent. I am taking a lutein supplement now that contains 20 mg and that is the potency of the main ingredient that I look for, nothing less than that. At 20 mg lutein with 4 mg of zeaxanthin present as well, I feel like I can notice almost an immediate difference in the way my eyes focus more sharply and the colors around the room are more vibrant. If I stop taking this supplement for a few days I can really notice the difference in my ability to focus and see clearly. It’s really noticeable when I’m watching TV at night. The little banners at the bottom of a news feed are more crisp without a blurry halo, it’s very interesting!
I think this is a good supplement for anyone wanting to preserve their vision. It is also a strong antioxidant that clears free radicals away that might otherwise start to clump together, causing problems later in life. The price on this supplement is a good value for the efficacy of the ingredients. This brands supplements are made in the USA in an FDA registered facility. I will continue to take this Lutein supplement when my first bottle is gone. I would recommend checking out this brand and this formulation.

Lutein & Zeaxanthin by Nutrigent, made in the USA. This is a dark glass bottle of 60 hard shelled capsules filled with liquid. The liquid is a bright orange and stains like turmeric/curcumin does. Several of my capsules are broken and the bottle is a mess and impossible to take – see one stained marble countertop and one ruined phone case. They are gluten, dairy free but note NOT nut free. A good strength at 20mg Lutein and 4 mg Zeaxanthin. I have a list of eye complaints and am trying to get a good amount of carotenoids in my diet and in supplement form. If these were not damaged – a design fault I think – they looked promising and may have worked.

decent lutien supplement, it has the minimum 20mg + 4g lutein/zeaxanthin in just the 1 pill, so no need to take 2. i hope this liquid based version will work better over time, but ive found gummy versions to work well for me in the past. i take this for eye pain and dry eyes, along with other supplements to help. probably not the highest quality forms of lutien and zeaxanthin, but ive had no issues with these.
the pill shells are very firm, but seem to go down easily.

I was very happy to find this product as it meets 3 very important criteria we have for our supplements:

3. Made in the USA
The expiration date is over a year in the future which is an additional plus in my book

These are filled capsules with 20 mg of Lutein and 4 mg of Zeaxanthin. Recommended dose is 10mg for Lutein and 2 mg for Zeaxanthin. They also include a high fat coconut oil. If this is the dosage you are taking then these are great as a two-month supply for a reasonable price, however, if this is higher than normal dose then you should look elsewhere as one capsule is 20mg Lutein and 4mg Zeaxanthin and you can split the capsule since it is filled with a liquid and is not a hard tablet. They are easy to swallow.
