I’ve had a need for DAO, and known about it, for about 15 years thanks to my medical team at Mayo. It wasn’t easy to get until more recently. Life Extension is a brand that’s pretty well known and I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is a non-pork version of DAO, which is why I wanted to give it a try. It works really well for me, but I also have had testing done to show I need it.
The capsules come in a well-sealed package, in a well-sealed bottle. The bottle I received has an expiration date of 9/2026. The capsules are small to medium in size, when compared to most supplements, have a mild odor in bulk but no odor to a single capsule, and no taste when taken immediately. Directions on the bottle are to take 1 capsule before your heaviest meals, up to 3x daily or as recommended by your medical professional.
If you’re someone who needs the supplementation, or who has been recommended to cut out the specific foods related to DAO, I’d recommend discussing taking DAO with your medical professional. I would definitely recommend the product itself.🙂

From Pea Sprouts Instead of Pork
I am very glad this is NOT made from Pork. Well, I wouldn’t take it if it was, but it’s good to know it’s possible to make it without Pork.
The Quality
Life Extension has been around since 1981, and they’ve always been a very good company, so I believe it when they say they use the finest raw ingredients, and that the majority of their products are non-GMO, gluten-free and manufactured in the USA, and a Certificate of Analysis is available for every one.
Does It Help?
It seems to be helping, Yes. This company is so good, I believe it when they say it will help with food allergies and to digest milk products.

I’ve been using Life Extension Food Sensitivity Relief for a couple of weeks now, and it has really helped with occasional gas and stomach discomfort after eating histamine-rich foods like cheese and wine. The diamine oxidase (DAO) enzyme in this supplement seems to support my digestive system by breaking down histamine more efficiently. I also appreciate that it’s plant-based—derived from pea sprouts instead of animal sources. The formula is non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegetarian, which makes it a great choice for me. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it took a little while to feel the full effects. Overall, I’m happy with this product for improving my digestive comfort!

What I like:
According to the labeling, the product is manufactured in the USA. It’s often difficult for me to determine if such labeling truly means that a product was 100% made in the USA, or if it merely means that they bottled it in the USA. I’ll have to lean on faith with this one, but I do feel fairly confident about the claim.
I feel the product is helpful for me, following a high carb meal, i.e., Spaghetti and garlic bread. I feel less bloating and after such meals if I take a dose of the supplement, 15 minutes before or after such meals.
I was happy to receive the product in fresh condition and I’m pleased with the list of quality ingredients.
What I don’t like:
There’s nothing I dislike about the product.
I’m pretty sure that I’d order this item again.

These are significantly less cost than the other DAO supplement that I’ve been using, and Life Extension is a brand that my doctor recommends, so I was excited to try these.
I have a genetic issue that I just don’t naturally make enough DAO, and if I don’t supplement, I get nausea, headaches, and muscle pain – even when I’m avoiding high histamine foods.
I used these for several days, but I found that it didn’t control the histamine enough to not have symptoms. To be fair, the DAO that I usually take has the pork kidney extract, vitamin c, and quercetin – it is possible that pea sprout powder alone is not as effective and I might have to take more.
This is a very good vegan option though.

It’s a great product that really helps reduce hives & itching I get from MCAS, but I need to take a lot & it only comes in the 60 count bottle so I run out quickly. It’s been difficult to get an order of them delivered in less than 2 weeks & I always get email updates that the expected delivery date is being pushed out longer than what was stated when I placed the order, so I really have to plan ahead to make sure I don’t run out. When I run out or have to reduce how much I’m taking to make them stretch until I can get an order delivered, I end up having bad hives & itching pretty much around the clock, so running out means some suffering for me. This makes the extended delivery times very frustrating for me. Aside from that, I’m really happy with the quality & effectiveness of the product.
