This is a good value for a 5mg L-Methylfolate product. When taking a 5mg dose, I have noticed more energy, less compulsive behavior, less depression, and more focus and concentration, especially when reading. Although I personally find even better results taking the same product by Thorne Research. I don’t know why, but some brands seem to be more suited to a person’s particular biochemistry – I have noticed that with other supplements.
Thorne’s version used to be a whopping 78% (!) more expensive, but now I see they are comparably priced.
However, I would still recommend trying this one if you want a 5mg dose because A) This is a well-respected brand and a good product, B) ANY version of L-Methylfolate would be beneficial to try, even if you have not yet taken the test for the MTHFR genetic variant. Because if by chance your body is not producing the necessary methyl group to the folic acid you are taking, the folic acid will not be usable to your body and can even do you some harm over time. If you have issues with focus, concentration, ADHD-like symptoms, severe anxiety, compulsive behavior, and depression, I would definitely give this a try before you resort to a pharmaceutical like an SSRI. Your body isn’t going to be lacking a pharmaceutical. But it could be lacking the proper folic acid.

This is the L-Methylfolate supplement that I used to get through my Naturopathic doctor for much less money. He retired in September of ‘21 and now I am paying Amazon retail. Seems to be as effective but I have read reviews about the quality of some things from Amazon being different than from more direct suppliers, so I will know more in April when they retest my blood markers to see if my megoblastic anemia has improved. I know that when my ND got me onto taking these as well as a methylation supportive B complex, I went from no energy and not being able to breath when exercising back to feeling good and breathing well during high heart rate activities. Calf injury late November derailed my running and that’s just after I started taking these same l-methyl folate supplements ordered from Amazon as my source. Will update later.

The best Lmethylfolate on the market. I trust this company implicitly and only buy my supplements from them. These are super tiny and easy to take even for someone who doesn’t like taking pills!

It’s always risky buying supplements. This is what it ways it is. If you’re looking for a safe way to boost a little energy, this is a good brand.

The doctor recommended this product for my husband.

My wife and I have both reviewed our genetic testing, and both have inefficient enzyme systems for converting folic acid (Vitamin B9) to the form the body needs, l-methylfolate. I experience memory-retrieval issues, and she has leg cramps when we don’t take this supplement.
I am a psychiatrist, and am well aware of the importance of this supplement for some people. Since one of my patients discovered this particular generic, I’ve been recommending it. It seems of good quality and appears to work well for those patients who need it. And the price on Amazon, particularly with free shipping with Prime, makes this the best choice.

UPDATED REVIEW:
After careful consideration, and many cycles on and off this to make sure it’s not all in my head, I’ve decided taking this supplement does help. It is not like taking a drug that works immediately and then fades away after several hours, which might make it seem like it’s not doing anything. I feel like, after a few weeks of taking this, I experience a gradual, but profound improvement in my overall ability to motivate myself to do things. It doesn’t solve all my problems, but it takes the edge off my laziness and apathy. I believe this is what people mean when they say it can have antidepressant qualities, because many of these issues are symptoms of depression. I can’t speak to whether or not this will have an effect on people without the MTHFR gene mutation as I do have it, so YMMV. I do think it works for me and have now put it on subscribe & save. It is expensive, but I feel life is just a bit better with this supplement, which is worth it enough for me.
PREVIOUS REVIEW:
I am not completely sold on this product. For how expensive it is, I need to be ding darned sure this is helping me to justify taking it every day, and continuing to repurchase. Genetic testing shows I have the MTHFR gene variant that necessitates taking this supplement, but I’m not sure if taking this does anything substantial. I suppose I feel a little more motivated, but it could also be placebo effect. I think I noticed slight increased anxiety, and maybe even insomnia. I don’t care for those effects, but I could deal if I thought it was doing a whole lot for me. I’m just not sure. I also read some stuff that freaked me out about long-term high-dose folate supplementation and cancer risk. Nowhere in those studies did I see anything that said the negative effects would be negated if your body needs more folate because of a genetic variation. So, the jury is really still out in my case. All that being said, if you know folate supplementation is something you want and need, this appears to be a high quality, reputable brand.
