I’ve been a kava drinker now for three years, and I was recommended the Aluball by some friends. The Aluball itself is pretty great. I just put in a couple of tablespoons of kava, shook it for about thirty seconds, and then enjoyed my kava. It was really that easy! Now, the reason I’m giving this three stars is that the shaker it comes with terrible. It leaks way too much, and makes a horrible mess.
I’d definitely recommend the Aluball itself, but buying it separately instead of with the shaker. I just put the Aluball in one of my other shakers that I use for my protein drinks, and worked out fine and with fewer puddles lol

I received my AluBall Kava Maker last week and it is perfect for making small servings of kava. If you don’t have many friends to drink with it can be tiresome having to knead kava in a bowl the traditional way. You need to grab a bowl, knead for 10-15 minutes and then after drinking you still need to clean up. There is nothing wrong with this method and in fact, it is fine if you’re drinking with a big group.
However, the AluBall Kava Maker makes it so much easier to enjoy kava by yourself. You can make a decent batch, ready to enjoy, in less than a few minutes. Just put your kava in the AluBall, shake for a bit and you’re good to go. Afterwards cleaning up is as simple as dumping the contents of the AluBall into the trash.
I used this product over the past few days and it made my weekend so much more relaxing. I was able to sit down, enjoy some kava, and go about my day without having to worry about set up or clean up. I find that it’s also great to use after work.
The one thing I do not like about this product is that I find the smaller cap to be easy to lose but that is a minimal concern when compared to the benefits that this shaker has.

This shaker and strainer are perfect companions for relaxing at home. Great design makes cleaning easy, no more messy cheese cloth preparations! One recommendation for an upgrade would be to make the ball just slightly larger on the internal diameter to accommodate more powder, that way you could either make stronger 300 ml concoctions, or take it to 500 ml and just have the same strength but more volume.

I like how simply it is, and the mesh ball is easy to use too! Some people recommend getting an additional ball to be able to mix more per batch so to speak. I recommend this if you don’t like the traditional method for preparation.

Absolutely a great buy! Makes a kava drink in minutes instead of 20 minutes of kneading a bag of kava.
I always use hot tap water with it because it seems to help a lot with the potency of the kava!

As a new kava drinker, I was spoiled to find out about this on kava forums and have it arrive on or before the same date my first kava order arrived. I have not done the traditional brewing method yet, and was tempted to knock off a star thinking that this must not get out the same amount that the longer and more arduous method does, despite the great convenience. I think it still deserves the fifth star despite that, and the price.
I will say that others on the kava forums have used multiple “washes” of each ball, which led me to do so as well. The 2nd one certainly seems warranted, and 3rd and even 4th washes with less water seem warranted to me as long as colored water is being produced.
I have not after a couple of weeks had any issues with the unit cracking, but I stick with room temperature water. The screwing of the ball worked fine for me for the most part(one time I had difficulty unscrewing it). When it isnt screwing together so easily, i just squeeze it together and it pops in place, often without need for any further screwing.
I head read each ball full contained 2-3 tablespoons, but I easily fit 3 heaping tablespoons in. While I can’t as of yet compare to the traditional method for efficacy, from what Ive read I can compare to the time and effort, and think this is worth every penny for the convenience. When I get around to trying the traditional preparation method, I plan to update this.
