For some time, I’ve been looking for a protein powder with no artificial sweeteners. You’d be amazed at how difficult it is to actually find one! Most will have sucralose, while others have acelfame Potassium (which is like aspartame), Xylitol, or a Chinese sweetener that many of us haven’t heard of, “Luo han guo”.
This unflavored Isopure doesn’t have ANY sweeteners – neither real nor artificial. And the fact that it’s my favorite brand (purest form of whey protein) is even better. I’ve always gotten Isopure because I’ve learned that it’s one of the most natural brands out there. One woman at a GNC told me once that people who’ve just had Gastrol Bypass surgeries are told to use this (over others) because it won’t build up stones in the kidneys (ask your doctor first though).
I was skeptical at first about the description, “unflavored”, but I think it has a little vanilla taste to it. I mean, you can taste that it’s a whey-based powder, but in a good way. Being unflavored also allows me to add it to practically anything, even warm food. I actually baked some into banana cake (and its frosting), which everybody thought was awesome.
Besides the 26g of protein per scoop (1 scoop = 1 serving), each scoop also has 110 calories, 170 mg sodium, 0 fat, 0 sugar, 0 carbs, 5.6g BCAAs, 2.5g L-Glutamine, no additives, no gluten, no lactose and only 3 ingredients:
1) Ion Exchange Whey (milk) protein isolate
2) Microfiltered whey (milk) protein isolate
3) Soy lecithin (which I understand is used to prevent caking of the powder)

This is a review of the Natures Best Isopure Natural Chocolate 3 pound tub.
My mom had to use this before and just after her gastric bypass surgery. I have never been able to use whey protein, it always left me with undesired GI side effects. I got hungry and was running out the door, and she suggested I try this “shake”
I was in such a hurry I took a larger jelly jar, added a scoop to about a cup of water, and shook it as I ran out the door.
A serving is TWO SCOOPS, but because I didn’t know how it would affect me, I only did ONE scoop to start.
I hoped it wouldn’t upset my stomach, but I was so hungry at that point I didn’t care (side effects for other whey products often didn’t till later anyway)
First was texture, NOT grainy at all, and all I did was shake it a few seconds in water.
Second was taste, it tasted great, reminded me of a more chocolately tasting YooHoo.
Third, STOPPED HUNGER, and held me for about 3-4 hours comfortably.
Fourth, is it is not flavored with artificial sweeteners. I hate those chemically tasting fake sweeteners. This product uses NO artificial sweeteners.
Fifth, this product is nutritionally fortified, not only filling, it is REALLY good for you 🙂
Sixth, compared to other mixes, this one is really NOT that expensive, and is MUCH cheaper than premade shakes.
Seventh, STORAGE is easy, on the shelf, no refrigeration needed till after you mix it, and then it is so yummy you won’t have any left over, but if you do, then it should be refrigerated if it is in its liquid form. But dry as purchased, it takes up LESS room, great for a renter like me who has limited shelf space and only a tiny fridge.
AND, THE BEST PART, NO STOMACH UPSET AT ALL. I use this now when I need a quick snack or breakfast. If I am using it for a snack I use one scoop and I know I can go comfortably for about 3 to 4 hours. If I use two scoops, I count it as a meal and can go about 5 to 6 hours comfortably, the protein keeps me from getting hunger pains.

This is a review of the natural vanilla flavor. I did a lot of research on different protein powder brands and flavors before buying this. My husband and I both lift weights, and he makes shakes every day. I find his powder produces a shake with great flavor, but it has a gummy, dare I say, snot-like texture. I just couldn’t take it. I wanted something like SmoothieKing but with all of the ingredients under my control (and not so expensive). So the research began to find a powder that made from high quality proteins, with good vitamins and minerals, low sugar, reasonable price, and no gooey texture! Nature’s Best Natural Vanilla has met all my criteria:
–Protein: whey isolate. Regularly rated one of the best kinds of protein to use. It is their first ingredient. I also did a lot of math comparing grams of protein per ounce (not scoop–scoop sizes differ). 25 g protein in 31 grams of powder is top of the line. You’ll find some powders with a slightly higher ratio of protein to grams of powder, but some of them would have required me to sacrifice in my other criteria areas.
–Vitamins and mineral: zoom in on the picture of the nutrition label. This powder replaces more than just protein. I was pretty impressed with the range of vitamins and minerals included.
–Sugar: only 6 grams total carbs for two scoops (that’s 50 g protein). I usually only use scoop (that’s 25 g protein) at a time, so that’s 3 g carbs. Some people are insane about carb-free powders. I’m not. I have a 6 mile, round-trip bicycle ride to my gym. I can use some carbs when I get back home. In fact, I even add a tbsp or two of honey to my shake to increase the carbs. So unless you’re a total anti-carb fanatic, I don’t think 3-6 grams will mess up your entire day.
–Flavor: The vanilla is not overpowering. I’m not sure if it tastes entirely “natural,” so to speak, but it certainly doesn’t taste exceedingly artificial like a lot of other brands’ vanilla flavors do.
–Last, but not least, texture: I ordered this on a hunch that ingredients like xanthum gum cause the gummy texture (logical, right?). This powder does not include any gums. Whether or not that’s the actual cause, this powder gets a 10/10 for not being gummy, gooey, or snot-like at all. In the interest of full disclosure, I will also acknowledge that we upgraded our shake-making tools before this powder arrived. We went from a blender from the 1970s to a nutribullet. My husband’s shakes are a little less snot-like when made in the nutribullet but still kind of gooey. So I don’t think it’s just the equipment. If you’re sensitive to texture like me and planning to make shakes regularly, do your research about the powders but maybe also consider investing in a nutribullet, vitamix, etc.
–Price: It’s a little bit more expensive (price per ounce) than what I was buying before, but I think it’s worth it for something I’ll actually use and enjoy. I’ll definitely buy more!
My recipe:
1 C frozen strawberries
2 tsp ground flax seed
1 Tbsp honey
4 Tbsp milk
1 level scoop protein powder
