I just tried my 1st shake made from this product and was sorely disappointed! I measured out 89.6g on a jeweler’s scale and added a measured 17 Fl oz of refrigerated water and placed the mixture in my “specialty shake blender” and it basically was tough getting all the lumps out, but managed after about 3 tries. The final concoction was too thick for a drinking straw and tasted like lightly Banana flavored cardboard. The “Tastes good” portion of the listing is IMHO a grievous misnomer! I’ll play around with it some, but if you don’t see an addendum to this review soon, you’ll know the product has failed the Taste/Texture test! The taste while very mild is tolerable, the texture is a complete failure @ this time.

So I tried the banana flavor and enjoyed it. Wanted to see if chocolate was worth it too. First I’d like to say I love how these 2 flavors aren’t sweet at all. I don’t know about the other ones but these weren’t. And I enjoy that. I hate drinking a shake and wonder why if felt like I just drank a whole cake. The chocolate one is nice. As it wasn’t as clumpy as the banana. Taste wise it reminded me of the chocolate puddings but not sweet. A little bland. The consistency is different from the banana though. Also, from having the banana it’s a little weird but it gets messier than any protein powder I’ve ever had. First, how it’s packaged the powder gets in the crevices of the zip tracks. So when you try to seal the bags it doesn’t cause a ton of powder is stuck in the tracks. I think the manufacturer needs to zip the backs first before they seal it. Second, the powder is like jumpy and attracted to certain things. Like it’s got some magnetic pull or something going on. The chocolate doesn’t have that though. So a little weird. Definitely like this product because how hydrated and full I feel. I wouldn’t rely on it as a meal or anything if people are thinking about that. But yeah I would definitely recommend.

I absolutely love this! and it is my # number 1 brand of choice compared to other brands this one is the best for me.
I found that if mixed with a whisk or a shaker with a ball I still got lumps in the mix but a stick blender worked brilliantly.
I measured 500ml of chilled not fizzy water into a glass jug I then added a tablespoon of skimmed milk powder and 2 scoops of the chocolate Huel
– It tasted exactly the same as the Huel ready made up version in the Huel bottles! (you can buy in supermarkets) – deliciously smooth with no lumps and not gritty at all! 😁😘💋❤️ 🤗
**I noticed in some people’s feedback that they complained there was no scoop in the pack, there was in mine but I measured the powder anyway (in case I lost the scoop) and I found that 1 scoop equals 45grams or 9 x 5 gram teaspoons – (not pressed down just gently scoop up the powder and measure 45g into the bowl of the kitchen scales).
On the Huel bag it recommends 1.5 scoops per meal replacement – which is easier measured on a small kitchen weighing scale and recommended by Huel, but I preferred adding 2 scoops to the 500ml of chilled still water as I found it was then identical to the ready made chocolate Huel version – found in the Huel bottles in supermarkets (which is thicker than the other flavours and not watery like some other flavours are).
Mixed like this and used for a meal replacement for breakfast I felt full until lunch time and I only needed a glass of water in between I didn’t feel the urge to eat snacks, like I have with other brands I’ve tried
and the low sugar content meant that my blood sugar levels remained constant with no dips in my energy level and no spikes in my blood sugar readings I have already noticed I don’t feel ravenous and my midnight trips to the fridge in search of food are now non existent which is much better than how I was before I embarked on this Huel meal replacement plan.
I will update my review when I have tried the other flavours. So watch this space …….

I bought this product after my friend recommended it to me. It tastes pretty good. If you mix it with water, the texture is a bit grainy. But, if you add any type of milk to it (I tried both cow and soy milks), the graininess is minimal. The instructions call for add 1-2 scoops. Howevere, there was no scoop in the package. Thankfully, the instructions also gave the instructions in terms of weight. So, if you have a kitchen scale, you can just weigh what you need.
My one big issue with this product is that it clumps. If you add the liquid to the powder, the powder will get stuck to the bottom of your shaker cup no matter how much you shake. If you add the powder on top of your liquid, and then shake, it incorporates but you’ll have a lot of clumps. I found that using a whisk works pretty well to work most of the clumps out. This product would probably mix better in a blender.

I tried a few flavors of huel ready to drink bottles and they were very good. I assumed this would be similar but it is not at all similar, not in taste, not in texture. It really does taste and feel like cardboard powder.
That said, I am too lazy so I should be able to finish this 1.5 kg pack in a few months but not ordering it again ever.
May be they should add a measuring spoon.
Edit: from 2 -> 4 stars. I have gotten used to the taste. Will order it again because of ease of use. Sometimes I don’t want to cook at night after work and this is a healthy way to get some nutrients.

I almost never mix up a Huel and drink it immediately. I mix it up right after I drink the last one, which has been sitting mixed in the fridge for hours already, up to a day or more sometimes. This ENORMOUSLY helps with the texture. I do this with all my shakes. They are all better after soaking longer. If it soaks too long it starts to ferment and opening the shaker bottle will come with an obvious pressure pop and it tastes sparkly kind of like kombucha. The website says don’t let it sit too long pre-mixed but so far I’ve never noticed any dire effects. Could be I’m gambling with my life?
It doesnt come with a scoop. This is to save money and the earth. Your first order of Huel from their website includes one, but I just use a stainless steel measuring cup I have set aside in a dish on the counter for this one purpose.
Add the powder to the liquid, not the liquid to the powder, unless you like bricks at the bottom of your bottle. You can’t put dry powder in a bottle for transport and add water later wherever you are. Learned this the hard way.
Swirl the bottle before shaking it, so you don’t just slam pack the top of the bottle full of sludge that never mixes in. Learned this the hard way too.
When I first open a new bag, I will take a toothbrush I have for cleaning shaker bottles, and dry scrub out the zipper of the huel bag. Wherever they pack this stuff and seal the bag, there is often powder in the zipper. I do this until I’m able to get the zip to close. You can also just fold and use a clip, or dump it all in a repurposed protein powder jug or a big plastic tupperware.
I like to mix my chocolate huel with chocolate vega sport protein. ~ 60g Huel, ~30g Vega. It’s like drinking chocolate pudding.
The coffee flavor has caffeine. May seem obvious but I learned the hard way after a sleepless night.
Huel contains MCT oil from coconut. This has me searching for alternatives because I am mildly allergic. I used to use straight MCT oil and could immediately tell that the area around my nose would get itchy after taking it. The effect of the Huel is milder to the point that I’ve ignored it for years, but I figure it’s time to quit giving myself mild allergic reactions constantly. This info is for anyone who might notice anything similar.
Any new product may come with a gastrointestinal adjustment period. Oats are commonly associated with gas. You might want to get a digestive enzyme supplement along with your first order. I have never noticed a particular reaction with Huel myself, but it’s pretty common that new proteins and fibers introduced into your diet will have an adjustment period and you may eventually decide you’re not compatible if it never goes away.

I bought Huel to save me some time and fridge space from meal prepping. Sometimes I just don’t have enough time or energy in the day to prepare a meal for work and Huel provides a convenient and effective solution to this problem. The powder WILL clump if you do not shake it well enough. However, if I do enjoy a little bit of chew when it comes to the banana flavor as it feels like I’m eating something which helps satisfy my hunger. If you want a less clumpy consistency, it’s best to leave it in the fridge overnight or blend it. Banana is the best tasting flavor by far and mixes well in shakes.

Flavor is good. Texture isn’t lumpy, just a bit gritty, but that would probably be completely eliminated mixing with extra liquid or blending with a banana or something. Definitely feels like a meal, very filling. I’m on the low fodmap diet and this is one of the more affordable complete meal shakes for sure.
